    Sierra Nevada Resilience

According to this article, over 1000 breweries have participated. And that doesn't count me, because I got my ingredient kit for Christmas. :-). https://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny-news-breweries-sierra-relief-beer-20181128-story.html

"Numb Tongue Brewery" my 1 Barrel Home Brewery

Sounds like a "stachlbier", basically putting a hot poker (stake) into a beer to carmelize sugars. The way I understand it, it's a gimmick invented by farmers after they've imbibed a few. Here's a picture from a place in Munich that does it at a Christmas market. The pokers are heated in...

I'm also working on a bottle filler gun... :-)

    First Experience in LoDO BIAB

Wow, cool. Then much credit is owed to you all for the good explanations here and at the low oxygen brewing site. Can't wait to try brewing a Helles in the future. And tasting the Tripel that's in the fermenter now. :-)

    Grainfather or Robobrew owners...

I have a Robobrew v3 with pump. I am also at about 4.5-5 hours for a brew day. I've had zero issues so far and have made about 6 batches since June. Yes, it doesn't heat as fast as my old natural gas burner, but there are many other advantages, and I've started pre-heating water now so the...

    First Experience in LoDO BIAB

Sorry if reviving this thread isn't the right thing to do, but I too have a question or two following my first LODO batch. The crux of it is how to know whether the sweet malt taste I'm getting with my pale ale is unfermentable sugars or the benefit from LODO? I'm relatively new to all-grain...

Check It Out: Kegerator Rebuild & Upgrade

That looks really nice. Here are a few thoughts in response to your questions: 1. With the fan that circulates air up into the tower, do you really need a second fan inside the fridge? Shouldn't the tower fan alone circulate air enough? 2. I didn't follow your reasoning about the two...

Steam Beer-style Fermentation in Flat Pans

I've heard of that as a Belgian method of some sort too. Dovetail brewery in Chicago has a big flat tank I read about one time. Found the article: https://www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/2016/07/25/dovetail-brewerys-tour-serves-up-a-potent-look-at-the-art-of-making-craft-beer

Pull down faucet wort chiller solution

Looks like a good solution. The 1/2" to GHT does exist, at least in brass. I found one at Menards. I'm doing something similar, only from a utility sink in the basement (no granite :-) ) to an immersion chiller.

    Simple setup?

You're doing 10 gallon batches for sure? If not and you'd consider 5 gallon batches, then it doesn't get more simple than the Robobrew system or similar (Grainfather, Mash & Boil). And as Bobby M mentioned, with electric you can keep it in the basement or use it outside. The false bottom on...

    Robobrew Immersion Chiller

Finally getting around to posting this question: I got the Robobrew v3 with the stainless steel immersion chiller a few months back, and have done a few 5 gallon brews in it. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my immersion chiller. The inlet and outlet are on elbows, so they run...

    Closed transfers...during primary fermentation?

Right. Here's information on the closed loop method https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/index.php?threads/600563/

    Closed transfers...during primary fermentation?

When you were at 70F and 30psi then chilled to 40F resulted in 15-20psi, simply releasing the pressure in the headspace down to 10psi did not get the "keg" down to 10psi, just the headspace. There was more (i.e., excess) CO2 dissolved in the liquid. If you let it sit like that for a while...

    Hazy IPAs, Why?

My point was not about the lack of enjoyment of new dimensions and new flavors. I'm all for that. As I said, I don't have a problem drinking NEIPAs. I can drink one, and sometimes two in a row. :-) My point is that we shouldn't redefine a style. A new style should get its own name. And...

    Hazy IPAs, Why?

This right here. I don't have a problem with drinking NEIPAs, but I have a problem with calling them IPAs without further qualification. Case in point, when ordering a beer the other day, I browsed the tap handles and chose a random IPA. After receiving the glass, it was obvious it was a...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Any update on this configuration? Would appreciate any findings you could share.

    No chill

I wouldn't rack hot wort straight into a glass carboy. What kind of plastic brew bucket are you using? Do you know for sure that it has some foodsafe coating? To my understanding (and reading other posts in these forums) the typical fermenter bucket is HDPE and is just fine with hot liquids...

    Bottled water or filter?

No personal experience, but the "purified" water sounds like RO. Your 1 micron filter is not going to remove iron. It's just for particulates. You could consider a faucet-attached water filter (e.g. PUR) if you like the way this brew turns out. Those will also remove chlorine in your water...
