    New Belgium sold!

"Members of New Belgium's ESOP — current and former employees included — will vote on the deal before it is finalized, a New Belgium spokesperson said."

    Philadelphia Bottle Shops

I know that I have seen some Russian River at both over the years. Best bet would be to call them during the day, when it's not as busy and ask ahead of going there. Tired Hands is worth a 25-minute ride on the Paoli-Thorndale line, especially for lunch.

    Sweeten and bottle carbonation

I think the opinions that you cite are stated with the assumption that we are only discussing the uses of "natural" sweeteners, such as table sugar, apple juice, honey, or the like. These are all simple sugars that are readily fermented to completion by the yeast. In the keg, you can add...

    A question about cherry brandy

Oregon Fruit has the tart cherries in water. The sweet cherries come in syrup. I have used both in beer.

Starsan 1 month in Letica Bucket -- White film, dissolved plastic?

Starsan will attack nylon (phsophoric acid is a solvent for that material) when in contact for extended periods of time. As someone else mentioned it will react with PVC tubing, but I believe that is mostly the plasticizer. Acids will react with the DEHP plasticizer and leave an oily sticky...

    Philadelphia Bottle Shops

If you go to South Philly, both the Bottle Shop and Brew Ultimo are on that list. They have some pretty good selections at those two locations, and they're within a couple blocks of each other. If you want to check out a couple of good Philly breweries, I would recommend: Brewery ARS (same...

First brew, think i cucked it up already. Help and advice appreciated

Why throw it out now? For all you (we) know, it could turn out decent. Use it as a jumping off point for your learning process.

extracts or the real thing ?

I have spoken with some professional brewers who are up front about their use of extracts. Often times they will use extracts to supplement or complement what they get using fresh fruit. A few brewers have specifically mentioned that they do that with strawberries, because they are such a...

A lot of wasted wort after transfering to fermertor ( hop trub )... any tip out there ?

Personally, I dump the whole of the boil kettle into the fermenter through a sanitized stainless steel sieve. This keeps a good fraction of the trub out of the fermenter. Irish moss helps agglomerate the trub into some sizeable chunks that get trapped by the sieve. Hop bags are another option...

    Coconut absorbing beer

As it absorbs beer, it also gives up it's flavors... so no, it's all part of the process.

Cloudiness in beer and hydrometer questions

Who is they??? I have never heard this. Beer is routinely bottled at specific gravities less than 1.006 (I've had saisons finish at 1.000). The question of whether a beer is ready to bottle is answered by the change in gravity. If your specific gravity is close to your expected final number...

Looking for the cause of a very low carbonation

What was your OG/FG, yeast used, batch volume, amount/type of priming sugar, temperature at which bottles were conditioned, length of conditioning time (before sampling)?

    "Funky" Flavors from Bottling?

I'd like to add to this. If you use tap water to make up your sanitizer, make sure you treat it with campden tablets to remove chlorine or chloramine. I know that one of the water gurus on this site talked about this once, that residual Star-San in your bottles can contain enough...

Enlighten me. Why would I want a foldable screen phone?

It's way more satisfying to hang up a flip phone than pressing a small digital button.

    Should I be worry!?

The oiliness is really not apparent in your photo. Can't tell what it is from this. How much head space do you have in your secondary vessel? There should almost none (if a carboy/gallon jug, fill it right up into the neck). There's really not a lot of activity in this vessel, and there...

Discussion on Belgian Ale Fermentation Techniques

I think this might be your article in question (easily found by Googling: Duvel split fermentation) http://www.beerhunter.com/documents/19133-000020.html From Duvel, they only mention secondary fermentation in a bottle...

    Food grade epoxy?

HDPE is not the easiest material to bond to others, especially with curved surfaces. You would need a flexible adhesive, too, because the material will flex. I would check out Henkel's site (makers of Loc-Tite) and look for a medical device grade adhesive that specifies PE. If it were me, I...
