Is this bacteria or yeast growing back?

No, there what I'm assuming was a thinnish layer of krausen on top still. A lot more brown and gunky looking. Then all the stuff at the bottom obviously.

Is this bacteria or yeast growing back?

Hopefully it's no big deal. It's my first brew, and it was in the bucket until today, so I've never actually gotten to see what was going on.

Is this bacteria or yeast growing back?

I transferred to the secondary today. Maybe 5 hours ago... I got home and looked at it, and saw this, is this bad or normal do you think?

    Chicago Homebrew Club

Glad someone finally stepped up to do this in the city. (I've been waiting at least a full week, since I did my first brew) Just signed up.

Jamil's Russian Imperal Stout or Rasputin?

Love Rasputin and Storm King, but recently tried the Stone RIS... that's good stuff.

Are these the essentials to begin brewing beer?

I just got a Midwest kit with a ton of stuff, and wound up buying at least 6 or 7 things on top of it, some for convenience, some because I didn't realize at the time I'd need them. Things like a wine thief, better grain bags, wort chiller, oxiclean, bottle drying rack. But yeah, even after...

    Trouble picking a starter kit...plz help! :)

I initially had a similar thought about the size of the better bottles, but I think they're meant to be secondaries, and using the bucket for primary. So I'm ok with it at the moment.

    Trouble picking a starter kit...plz help! :)

I recently got this one... I didn't need the bottles since I had started saving ones I was drinking. Has almost everything I needed besides a Pot and a couple little things here and there that I thought I should get. (None of which are in any kits... Big spoon, wine thief, bottle rack...

    Wort chiller water temp

Turned out to work just fine. Not sure if it the water was colder, or the contrast between the boil and cool water made it seem that way, but it cooled it down in probably 20-25 minutes.

    First brew in the bucket...

Yeah, gonna check the LHBS today for a wine thief.

    First brew in the bucket...

    First brew in the bucket...

The bubbling was going when I looked over this morning. Not bad, less than 18 hours probably.

    First brew in the bucket...

Oh, question though.... My wort level wasn't deep enough to get a hydrometer reading from the pot, so I aerated between the bucket and pot a couple times, then tried to get it while it was in the bucket... but there were a ton of bubbles. I tried to clear some bubbles away and see where it...

    First brew in the bucket...

First brew is in the fermenter. It's a Midwest Boundary Waters Wheat with about 1lb of honey put in after flame off. Now I get to sit and bite my nails until I see some bubbles. I did use a smack pack, but forgot to activate a day before. I did it 3 hours before like it says on the pack...

    Wort chiller water temp

Pretty strange. I've tried it on one burner, and also on two, it's pretty similar on both, but I think it's slightly better when I use two, cause then at least it seems to bubble from the 2 sides.

    Wort chiller water temp

Haven't tested the tap water temp... but good notes on that.. I've been testing it a lot as far as boiling. I had an aluminum 30qt fryer, that wasn't doing the trick, and I thought, it could be because of how thin the aluminum was, and it was losing heat out of the sides. So I made 2...

    Wort chiller water temp

Probably finally getting around to my first brew tomorrow. I'm on my 2nd pot, neither of which will get a serious boil, but I've decided it's close enough. Thermometer says it's 211, but it bubbles at the sides where the 2 burners are, so I think it'll be fine. Anywayyy.... I finally got my...

    Topping out at 200 deg.

Everything I've seen says 7.5g pot should be ok for a 5g batch. This is still just extract.

    Topping out at 200 deg.

The 5.5g was the amount of water I started with. The pot is 7.5g (30qt) As for two burners, I mentioned before, I tried it, but it only barely hits both. About half the burner on each edge of the pot. That's when I seem to get a big bubble on one side of the pot, but not both sides for...
