Pressure in keg falling off at start

Pressure was back to zero this morning. On close inspection, the rubber housing on the top of the keg, which I thought was just wrinkled, is pulling away from the keg all along the beer out disconnect. I’m pressure testing another keg right now and if that holds for a few hours, I’ll transfer...

Pressure in keg falling off at start

No, just the gas line to the keg. I’ll take the lid off tomorrow and inspect it, then rotate it 180.

Pressure in keg falling off at start

As far as I could tell. Nothing seems misaligned.

Pressure in keg falling off at start

If I’m still having issues I’ll try rotating the lid, as you said. I have a couple of spare lids if it comes to that.

Pressure in keg falling off at start

Thanks. Yes, I knew that the beer absorbs CO2 faster at colder temps but I thought a drop from 15 psi to 5 in a few hours was too much. I’m going to leave it overnight to see if it continues to fall (CO2 turned off in case there really is a leak).

Pressure in keg falling off at start

ETA: If I keg the beer at 68F or so, put it on CO2, then drop the temp to 35F in a couple of hours, isn't that going to cause the CO2 to decrease in volume and corresponding a pressure drop? (I had my last physics class in 1981.) --- Thanks. I did pull up on the lid when closing it, but I only...

Pressure in keg falling off at start

I kegged into a corny this afternoon and after 15-20 minutes it was clear the lid wasn't sealing because the keg wasn't holding pressure. I started at around 2 psi if that's relevant. After googling some troubleshooting tips, I took off the lid, put it back on without sealing it, and opened up...

    Grainfather!!

Worked! The most difficult part is getting the plastic rings Grainfather uses instead of hose clamps to fasten the silicone tubing to the pump and pipes. They're just hard plastic rings and I cracked one of them pushing them down onto the pump housing. I'll replace it with a hose clamp before...

    Grainfather!!

Here's a link to a folder that contains instructions on pump disassembly/assembly and a text file that links to a video showing how the tubing connects to the pump. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but looks pretty straightforward.

    Grainfather!!

Thanks. I actually took out the spring and ball already. I bought a Robobrew false bottom, but after I got the false bottom I found out that there are two versions. Both work fine in an actual Robobrew, but the one I have is slightly too large to fit into the Grainfather. The one that fits is...

    Grainfather!!

Anyone have an exploded diagram of the G30 pump? Mine has been clogging during the last few batches. I could get it to clear by forcing air down the recirculating pipe after removing the valve but Grainfather tech support recommended that I take it apart and clean it. Which I did, but after I...

    Stains on glassware

Try denture-cleaning tablets, like Efferdent. I don't have a dishwasher (ok, I am the dishwasher) so maybe this won't work, but I use them to clean stained wine and coffee carafes, etc. and they work great. Worth a shot since they're dirt cheap (under $5 for a box of 100).

Why not just start with all grain?

    Yeast starters!

    Grainfather: Time/Effort Saved w/3-Gallon vs 5.5-Gallon Brew?

Thanks for the advice on short mashes/boils. I'll look into it. The Grainfather has a counterflow chiller so cooling the wort isn't too bad, but the heating phases are still pretty slow. Like you, I'm also interested in smaller batches in order to experiment. My kegerator only holds two...

    Grainfather: Time/Effort Saved w/3-Gallon vs 5.5-Gallon Brew?

I'm considering switching to 3-gallon Grainfather (G30) batches in order to shorten the time and effort on brew days. (I have 3-gallon micro pipework already.) For those that have experience with this, how much time and effort savings can I expect? Job demands are pretty high right now, so I've...

Why not just start with all grain?

Good point--BIAB solves some of the complexity. I went with a Grainfather for similar reasons (albeit at a higher cost--I sometimes question it whether it was worth the price differential).

Why not just start with all grain?

Some people do, but all grain adds another level of complication compared to extract. I think of extract as like training wheels on a bike--not absolutely required, but they can ease you into the journey with fewer skinned knees and elbows. I did extract brewing for a few years in the 1990s...

When to step up from Extract to All Grain?

You know, I probably hoped buying my Grainfather was going to be like buying my InstaPot, but it's certainly not. It takes a couple of tedious or complicated steps out of traditional all-grain brewing but it's still a huge amount of physical labor, troubleshooting, monitoring, etc. The benefits...

Ferment and serve from same keg?

Thanks! I haven't had a chance to transfer yet, so I may just let the batch condition in the fermenter (I put a floating dip tube in it at the start of fermentation) and serve from that. Thanks for the warning about letting it sit for a day. The fermenter's in the basement, so I'm sure to put...

Ferment and serve from same keg?

Thanks. I'll give it another couple of days and transfer to a clean keg.
