    Substantially bready flavours.

I recently brewed my first batch of beer at home based on the Tittabawasee Brown Ale from John Palmer shown in his book "How To Brew". The All Extract version calls for: Tittabawasee Brown Ale 4 lbs. of Pale Malt LME 2.5 lbs. of Amber DME .5 lbs. of Dark DME Hops 3/4 oz of Nugget (10%) at 60...

First time brewer, open to thoughts on adding nibs (current status with photo)

Hello, brewers! I am in the process of brewing my first beer, a basic brown ale. I boiled: 5 gallons water 7 pounds extract 2 ounces hops I have 3 ounces cacao nibs, yet to be added. I am planning using the vodka-soaking method with them to extract the flavors, and then dump the...

Any known logic to rules of why BevMo won't ship beer?

I live in California and am more than just a bit confused on the laws of shipping beer within, to and from, other states. When Stone Brewing released their Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout over a year ago, I ordered six bottles from Beverages and More, and they shipped it to my home. I was...

Can Cacao nibs replace hops bitterness during boil?

Curious if anybody has brewed a brown ale using cacao nibs. I'm interested to see if cacao nibs, crushed, and thrown in a full 1 hour boil would replace the bitterness that hops offers, or if it would leave a funky bitter flavor instead. I may just add the nibs to the fermenter if adding to...

Anybody tried Rapunzel Sugar for priming?

I've used Rapunzel brand sugar from amazon for awhile at home in my coffees, occasionally in certain teas, and all sorts of foods. It has a very unique rich taste and I've always wondered how that flavor would fair if used when bottling beer. Has anybody tried using this brand of sugar for...

    Confused about general recipe specifics.

Many, many thanks all of you! This clarifies all I had in question about the boiling and fermenting. Only one question remains, as it was a bit vague from several sources, all of them greatly varied: For a basic brown ale like this one, only needing roughly 2 weeks fermentation... Is it...

    Confused about general recipe specifics.

For my first extract beer, I'm very interested in brewing a basic brown ale. I see a lot of recipes all over the internet that leave out some crucial details, such as how long the primary and secondary fermentation are, as well as exact temperatures they should be. I have finished reading...

    Hello from Southern California!

Just bought my first equipment this weekend to start brewing with extracts. Very excited to see what I can do within the limitations of a simple one bedroom apartment! I enjoy all styles of beer, as long as it's not too syrupy sweet, or yellow and fizzy :)
