Help! Bottling day is tomorrow and I dont...

Thrown away bottles are fine its just usually a whole lot nicer if you can do it yourself. I mean it's a PITA if they weren't rinsed and dried after use and some have cigarette butts and stuff in them (yuck). It just makes cleaning and sanitation a whole lot better if they are rinsed fresh...

Help! Bottling day is tomorrow and I dont...

Quick....run to the store and buy a couple of cases of sampler beers. Only the kind with bottle opener type tops. Try some nice Sierra Nevada ales and the like and proceed to swig away! Be sure to rinse out your empties and place them upside down to dry. When you have enough bottles proceed...

    CO2 leak

I'm fortunate to have an air compressor for my woodworking. I have adapted both pin lock and ball lock ends to connect to the quick connect on my compressed air that I use to test with. No wasting any CO2. I just pressure it up to about 50 or 60 lbs and squirt everything with soapy water and...

    Fail.

Which IC are you using? I went the LM317 linear voltage regulator over the PWM circuit for my stir plate.

Updated Rubbermaid 10 Gallon MLT w/ copper manifold build

It was sort of the same thing for me. I had several pipes hanging out in the basement and thought I'd put them to work. Plus the copper just looks high grade and real cool.

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

I thought about that too. I spent a lot of time making sure everything is a balanced as I could, breaking glue loose and shifting until I was happy with it. It is probably as centered as possible and actually it shakes very little. I am a little concerned that its so tall stuff will have...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

My stirrer is speed controlled with the LM317 voltage regulator. Everything stores within itself when done. The coffee container top was a little springy so I added a piece of clear acrylic on top to accommodate heavier payloads. My flask is on order so I borrowed a glass from the kitchen for...

    Homemade Mash Paddle Pics

Great looking paddles guys, I have made a few from oak myself. I did see mention of using wood from old shipping pallets. This is really not a good idea for anything you plan to use around foodstuffs. Pallets could have been anywhere in the world and used to ship all sorts of chemicals...

    captain over kill stikes again!

As I see it it's only got about 3 problems for me. 1- At current copper prices it's worth more than my house. 2- You have to have armed guards to keep an eye on it when you're not around. 3- You have to have Godzilla on the payroll to pick it up for you. :)

Church opposition helps shoot down nano-brewery on adjacent land

All I know is that as a Catholic if I want Baptist company in my boat while fishing, I have to take two of them to protect my beer. Only one would be trouble.

Converted a bayou burner from propane to Natural gas

Looks great! I think this may work well for me too. I'm gonna break into the hot water heater / furnace supply line in my basement and tee off with black pipe then transition to rubber hose to get it outside. It's post like these that keep the fire departments and emergency rooms in bidness! :)

Updated Rubbermaid 10 Gallon MLT w/ copper manifold build

Nothing says you have to solder it. It needs to leak anyhow. For me I thought about not soldering but every time I took it out it was like a puzzle to figure out again. Both ends come off of mine to clean so I thought that was enough. As far as dead space is concerned you can just check that...

Updated Rubbermaid 10 Gallon MLT w/ copper manifold build

I sort of cheated. I had a lot of copper pipe and fittings laying around from an idea I had to plumb my shop with compressed air a long time ago. I probably bought 8-10ft sticks of copper pipe. I have since used most of it building hummingbird feeder stands for my wife. The rest I just had...

Updated Rubbermaid 10 Gallon MLT w/ copper manifold build

Palmer's online version does have a summary that I didn't seein the book. An excerpt concludes: Here are the summary guidelines for designing efficient manifolds and lauter tuns: Have the straight line distance to the drain be as short as possible. In other words, orient the pipes...

Updated Rubbermaid 10 Gallon MLT w/ copper manifold build

I too checked with John Palmer before building my manifold. Mine is from the book appendix-E Design option 3 except I put my return in the farthest tube instead of the third cross tube. I do know there have been changes and differences between the book and online versions but I read again that...

    Thermometer Problems

I used 2 last weekend, one was a Redi-chek by Maverick. It has a braided line that I immersed into the HLT checking sparge temp early on. It hung on for a while and then went to some stupid temp like 299 and then back to a lower temp than I knew the target was. I also tried an Oneida 31161 20...

Updated Rubbermaid 10 Gallon MLT w/ copper manifold build

Mine is similar but oriented the other way. I too was concerned about the tubing mashing closed so I minimized the tubing length. I used an offset (2 45 angles offset so they exit the crossbar in the center to line up with the output hole. The ends sides aren't soldered for cleaning. I have...

    Thermometer Problems

I've had it with cheap crappy made digital thermometers that are inaccurate and unreliable. My last 2 batches were filled with problems and I know there must be a better way. Is anyone using a controller (PID or such) and a temp probe just to monitor temps? I don't mind spending a few bucks...

White thing at the bottom of my beer

The gas aint all it can give you. Some folks are prone to the "yeast quickstep" from not being used to it. Like someone else said your body becomes accustomed to it and regulates the digestive tract to better accept it.
