Copper ok for immersion chiller to control fermentor temps?

No, copper is not OK with beer, only wort. Fermentation makes it more acidic adn drops it below the threshold for the acid to leech metals. bye bye liver.

    Bru Gear or Spike

There's no hidden surprises on a used kettle as if youre car shopping. Go look at the kettles and make sure the welds and what not don't look like bollocks.

    Cost of CO2?!?

Yeah I always used a paintball shop in NRH. Think I went to a liquor store off 35 one time for a swap. Cant remember the name. What about Stubby's homebrew in Haltom? Or that big one in Dallas probably has tanks too. That said, Im surprised Airgas charged you so much. They might just not deal...

    Initial pressurization of kegs

Yeah just shut the gas off to the one keg. If you pour more than a few beers, hit it with gas for a few seconds.

    Inkbird FAIL

Sorry to hear about the pup, best of luck on that. Ive had beer freeze accidentally, once thawed it was fine. Maybe yours will be fine as well. Is the probe wire nicked or anything? They might have replacement ones for pretty cheap. Doubt you need to replace the whole unit, it's likely just the...

How long does it take to tame a RIS?

What dont you like about it? Sounds too sweet, aging isn't gonna fix that.

Alternative idea for mailing beer, traveling, etc...

bro, pour some beer into a thermos and drink in public like the rest of us.

    Outdoor Fermentation chamber

That's awesome! Ive been debating on what to do with my setup. Im now in the garage next to my mower and critters. Ive got glycol chilled conicals but might scrap that and build a cold room. Or just upgrade to the new pressure rated unitanks, keep everything under a few pounds so I dont have to...

    Gravity Fed Glycol Chiller?

That's simply not going to happen.

Why my local brewery shut down

We've had a few good breweries in OR close because they went all in on bottle sales. They did well for awhile and then once competition increased their shelf-space diminished and it was game over. If I were opening a brewery it'd definitely be a brewpub or at least with a tasting room and BYO...

For those that are on the fence buying the new Spike Conical

That's true, definitely something to consider. I think their site said it still works for 5gal batches since the coil goes down to around the 3gal mark, but obviously wont be as efficient if most of it's up and out of the wort.

For those that are on the fence buying the new Spike Conical

Both the Spike and new SS unitanks look fantastic. Ill be buying one soon. Not sure which yet, depends on what Spike's neoprene jacket etc ends up costing. By the time you add the accessories up they'll probably be very close I think I'd like SS' upper design more since there's no lid, just the...

How important are AA% amounts in Beersmith?

The recipes you use don't have an overall IBU listed? You input your hops' AA and adjust the qty up/down to hit that. Really just tailor it to your tastes and let that influence how much you use.

Switch options to control 5500W element

Nope, running it at 120v is nowhere near powerful to maintain 12gal at a boil.

If i can hear my co2 tank does that mean it's leaking

Does the sound stop when you get pressurized? Hearing it flow isn't abnormal.

    Econonomic Glycol Chiller?

Too large and heavy to ship easily. That $500 price point goes out the window once you're palletizing it. Can't really deconstruct it and let them provide the reservoir either because of how easily it is to kink the copper tubing and what not.

How long is BIAB taking you?

Same. I am about 3hrs including cleanup. Either 5 or 10gal batches. eBIAB so easy and quick.

GFCI in panel vs spa panel

Cost versus effort overall for me. Swapping a breaker is like 10 mins max. Doing the spa panel requires wiring, drilling holes for an outlet (or you can just do power cords on both ends). I'm lazy so the breaker is worth it. And when you add up the spa panel, outlet, cable, etc it's not too much...

Need Guidance with Setting up Power

If you add up the breakers there is he well over 100A already. OP: you certainly can replace that 30A GFCI and make sure to run only the brew rig or AC at once. Might be judicial to make sure you dont crest that 100A limit though, dont run the washer, dishwasher or microwave when brewing.
