    Cooler Mash Tun Questions

So I have purchased a 5 gallon cooler to make a mash tun out of. The only issue is, it has a removable spout unlike most. The opening after I remove the whole spigot is MUCH larger then most. Check out the pics and tell me if you think this is going to work.

    Coleman Cooler Mash Tun

The issue is to be honest is once I remove the spigot, the hole is much bigger then a normal cooler. Do you think you can get larger washers to make this work? I am worried I wasted 20 bucks.

True Brew Belgian Ale - gravity question

I normally just leave all my beers alone for 4 weeks so if ferments completely and clears out as much as possible.

    Coleman Cooler Mash Tun

The other thing I didnt mention was that the spigot that it comes with is removable for cleaning. Check out the pics. Any thoughts on issues this may cause?

    Coleman Cooler Mash Tun

Here is another question. I got a 5 gallon round coleman cooler for a mash tun. Is this to small? From what i have read, for 10 pounds of grains, you need 2.5 gallons of water but I do not know the displacement value of the grain. Did I waste money on this cooler?

Question on a new brew pot.

I was more worried about the indent that hold the steamer plate being an issue. But if you guys think its good, then I have a winner. I dont have the cash to drop 100.00 on a 8gal stainless steel one. :-(

    Going all grain...

So I tossed out 20 bucks and got a 5 gallon picnic cooler for use as a mash tun. I am doing AHS Bavarian Hefeweizen w/ Danstar Munich German Wheat Dry Yeast. I just ordered it and hopefully it will be here for next weekend. Any suggestions or words of wisdom? I am super stoked and ready to...

    Apfelwein fermenting @ 60-62 degrees

I did use Montrachet champagne yeast My basement stays around 60 in the winter. I do have a sweatshirt on it so that is keeping some heat in. Thanks for the reassurance.

    Apfelwein fermenting @ 60-62 degrees

I just started my first EdWort's Apfelwein this weekend. Its fermenting away with an airlock bubble about every 5 seconds. I have it in my basement and it seems to be sitting around 60-62F, atleast thats what my carboy thermometer says. What issues could I run into with it being this cold?

    Just starting out

Being new to hobby myself, only 5 brews under my belt, I would STRONGLY suggest buckets over carboys in most situations. They are easy to use, easy to clean and cheaper to replace. I DO have a glass carboy, which has Apfelwein in it right now, but after my first batch I switched to buckets...

Easiest type of beer to brew for your first batch

I would STRONGLY suggest a Blonde ale. Super easy, takes about 3 weeks to fully ferment and is ready to drink 3 weeks after bottling in my experience.

    We have come full circle...

This article was a good read. Great to hear that our smaller breweries have picked up speed outside the US.
