When to Bottle? Rack to Seconday?

Ok i have read a lot of posts on here, none of which i can find right now, about keeping your beer in the primary for 2-4 weeks and then tranfering to the secondary for another week or so, etc, etc, so i was hoping for a little clarification. In general, when is the best time to transfer...

    Brew Day Gone Bad!!

Believe me, the 4 beers i drank while brewing had nothing to do with me forgetting to add the DME

    Brew Day Gone Bad!!

I steeped the grains, then brought it up to a boil and added the liquid malt extract, being very careful to mix it very well and not allow any to burn. Then i forgot to add the dried malt extact, and then added the hops and finished brewing and was just ready to transfer from my keggle to the...

    Kegerator Questions

Im fairly new to home brewing, hoping to brew my second batch this weekend, but already really enjoy this and hope to get into this a lot more this summer and have started to look into kegging. I have been trying to read as much as i can on HBT but my head is spinning and was wondering if...

First time Brewer...Can i open the Fermentor?

So I really shouldn't worry about opening the fermenter up and possibly contaminating my beer? That was my thought process behind using the spigot. So if I sterilized the turkey baster and maybe gave the fermenter lid and air lock a quick sterilize before closing it back up I should be ok?

First time Brewer...Can i open the Fermentor?

I just bought a graduated cylinder, i was planning on opening the spigot on my fermenter and letting some of the beer into the graduated cylinder so i can test it with my hydrometer and not risk infection by taking the fermenter lid off. Any thoughts?

    Yeasty Aftertaste

Well that makes me feel better. My keggle didn't drain very well into my fermenter and I ended up dumping all kinds of trub in there. So I thought that could be the problem coupled with the fact that I left it in the primary and secondary for a week out so after it was done fermenting. But the...

    Yeasty Aftertaste

Yep it was a Brewers Best Kit. At first taste the beer tasted amazing, but there was that aftertaste that would always get me. Dont get me wrong its not so bad that i cant drink it, its just there and slightly bothersome.

    Yeasty Aftertaste

Well I guess we'll see how this ipa turns out, wish me luck. I've ironed out some issues I had with my keggle and won't be working out of town like the last time so things should go much better.

    Yeasty Aftertaste

I fermented in my basement which stays pretty cool, just guessing but probably mid 60s. My brother tried it and said it tasted fine...

    Yeasty Aftertaste

It's been months and the taste is still there and it's been there for every beer, so I gotta assume it's something I did not sediment/yeast on the bottle.

    Yeasty Aftertaste

It was in the primary for 2 weeks then a 3rd week in the secondary before I bottled it. It carbonated a week or so in the bottle. I brewed this batch in august and I'm still drinking it and it still has the same after taste. Could it be from fermenting too long? Or from putting too much of the...
