The only downside with regular color laser is that the labels will not stay on if you are chilling the bottles in buckets of ice... not a big deal normally, but for a party etc you might have a tough time with that detail.

Can I Boil Less than 60 Minutes?

dgerber: what's OPS, exactly? Forgive the stupid question, possibly... but...??

Can I Boil Less than 60 Minutes?

Basically, as per another post, the kit has 2 ounces of hops included, and I'm either going to save a half-ounce of hops in the freezer, or shorten the boil... if there's not reason to boil everything for a full hour, I'll just boil long enough to get the IBUs required. Basically to your...

Can I Boil Less than 60 Minutes?

Cool. So, bittering happens at a half-hour as well as at an hour, if you are getting better utilization? It's not a big deal, then, to just shorten the boil, save time and save gas... that's GREAT news. I go through a lot of propane that would more than exceed the cost of hops saved if I...

Can I Boil Less than 60 Minutes?

Based on the kit I'm using (Dry Irish Stout,) and doing a full boil instead of partial, is there any reason why I NEED to boil for 60 minutes? If I'm getting the IBUs I'm aiming at with a single addition at 30 minutes, couldn't I just boil the wort for 30 instead of 60? Am I missing...

    Aroma Hops for Irish Stout??

according to beercalculus, I could shorten the bittering boil to 30 minutes. Is there any reason to boil the LME any longer? i.e. if the bittering is done with 30 minutes boil, do I NEED to do any more than that at a full volume?

    Aroma Hops for Irish Stout??

I'm not trying to mess up the recipe outright, btw, but it seems like a quarter ounce of hops won't be much use for future purposes.

    Aroma Hops for Irish Stout??

Alternately, would it just be fair to accept the higher IBUs of using the full 2 ounces... or just do a partial boil?

    Aroma Hops for Irish Stout??

I'm doing a full-boil of the Northern Brewer Irish Stout kit, and instead of saving a comparatively useless quarter-ounce of the cluster hops (kit calls for partial boil, 2 ounces of cluster to be added for 60 minutes), which leaves 40IBUs, and style can accomodate 1IBU per point of OG... if I...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2011?

What to Buy for Bulk Acquisition?

I guess I have four fermenters plus a secondary that I'm going to do cider in, so I suppose I could imagine breaking 200 gallons if I made a point of it. Never realized it was a tax issue.

What to Buy for Bulk Acquisition?

Is that a one-year limit? Is it a rolling limit, or just per calendar year? I have to figure a good number of folks around here have broken that pretty regularly. Didn't even know it was an issue.

This one is for a batch of dubbel that I'm pretty sure fermented too warm, and will as such be a bit off-tasting for a while:

I don't know why, but the milk thing didn't really work for me. I ended up just using a glue stick... Heck, if you are willing to hassle with it, even powerpoint will work for this, it just isn't quite as easy to work through.

Is there a story behind "Tomachawk" as opposed to Tomahawk?

What to Buy for Bulk Acquisition?

Not so sure I would want 32 pounds in a single pack, as opposed to splitting things per NB into 6 pound sealed quantities. Seems like having to measure out of a 32 pound drum of LME would be a little bit of a headache.

What to Buy for Bulk Acquisition?

I've not had good luck keeping it from turning into a sloppy, sticky mess, and while I didn't originally expect I'd say this, it's a more aggravating thing to mix into the batch... foamier etc. Also, the LME comes out cheaper in this case, even with shipping, and even counting the adjustment...

What to Buy for Bulk Acquisition?

This would be just 36 pounds of extract at a time... it's packed in air-tight 6 pound jugs, each of which covers approximately one batch of Hefeweizen or lawnmower American Wheat, or a batch of ESB or Irish Stout from the gold. Add in the specialty grains a pound or two at a time, and it's...

What to Buy for Bulk Acquisition?

I doubt I'm ordering 650 pounds of LME. This is lots of 36 pounds at a shot. I'll brew enough in the next three months to go through 36 pounds of Wheat LME and 36 pounds of Gold LME...
