English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Hey, that's pretty neat. I hadn't considered that. Mostly though, subbing out some malt for sugar will be more effective and will keep your ABV where you want it. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

What's happened to Toronto. DCU schooled them, it seemed to me that the problems were front to back. The folks up front couldn't finish, the folks behind could provide good service to those up front - and obviously there were defense troubles. I had high hopes for that team. Sent from my...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Also, I've heard and read that a good off the shelf invert sugar is Lyle's golden syrup. It's light, so I've ward it's in line with #1 invert. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Sugar will certainly help attenuation - but you will only get a dire beer if you substitute sugar for some of the malt extract. Simply adding sugar on top if an existing recipe will only boost the ABV. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    perplexing gravity issue

It has to either be a measurement error on the grains weight, water volume, or error in the SG reading. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Yeah, and a new coach trying to establish dominance. He is of course expected to turn MU back into the force they were a few years back. Sounds like LA were hammered. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Thoughts about the friendlies? I didn't see them, but cringe at the scores.

    Oatmeal Stout Yeast: S-04, 1335, or 1084?

Thanks for the reply. So would you say though that he 1968/wlp002 would be fine here where Us-04 wouldn't? I haven't used this dry strain myself, but have some at hand... Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    Oatmeal Stout Yeast: S-04, 1335, or 1084?

Yooper, why do you say this? I would have expected an English strain to do well with the style. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

See, I imagine some new fans, fresh off the World Cup fever, looking around for soccer satisfaction...hey, here's a home grown league...but wait, they just got schooled by Bayern Munich...hey, aren't Mericans supposed to be the best? Tune away to another sport/league... I agree, as a soccer fan...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

Oh, the all star game - I'm sure it's been discussed - but what's the purpose? It's a hold over from the other US sports giving the players a chance at injury, and the way I see it it gives potential US fans a reason to turn away from MLS when they see our best team get destroyed by some...

And today there's more talk about Xavi going to NY FC! Also, proud of the Sounders for a good showing against Tottenham. Lastly, our local NASL team Minnesota United FC trumped Swansea 2-0 in a friendly this past weekend. Very impressive results. Lots going on in the transfers as well. Sent...

Does the EZ calculator take into consideration the molecular weight of salts?

I see, sorry. To get it right then you need to calculate the portion of the mass that comes from the gypsum (or whatever) and subtract the water mass. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Does the EZ calculator take into consideration the molecular weight of salts?

Water calculations are not in molarity, but rather parts per million. In this calculation, MW doesn't matter since you are looking at molecules per million. Yes, the mass of the ions may be different, but 100 of them per million still mean 100 per million. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

the best ratio of genuine malt and extract?

It doesn't matter. If you use good brewing technique you will get a great beer with all grain or extract. Make sure the extract (esp LME) is as fresh as can be. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Reliable BIAB Calculator

I also honestly don't use any calculator anymore. I know I want 6G at the end of the boil and I always mash with 7.75-8G strike water. Works every time - but I usually brew in the 1.045-56 range. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew
