    PicoBrew Zymatic

Hop Hash - has anyone used it in the Z? I would think that using it as a 5-10 minute addition or in the keg would add a huge blast of hop character. I was thinking say 0.5 ounce in the keg for whirlpool, or just at 10 minutes.

recipes without early bittering hop addition?

I've heard it called hop bursting - all the bitterness achieved in the last 15 minutes. Taken to the extreme- it means you only need to boil for 15 mins. Not sure I'd do that with all grain, but I have with extract and made a great beer (look for 15 minute pale ale)

    PicoBrew Zymatic

It's not a bad idea - as honestly I've totally ignored temps. I figured 1) its supposed to be an ATC refractometer, and 2) a couple of drops should cool very quickly. Perhaps I should let it sit a few minutes first though.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

This exact thing was being discussed on the Picobrewers FB page...I think there was debate as to the point of it - but there may be someone there who used one.

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I have a question about original gravities and the Z. I check an OG during the chill phase using the syringe port and a cheapo refractometer with SG scale only. In the past, this was pretty spot on with expected. The last three batches, I've been off by about 10 points. I mill my grain at home...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

I get it. Perhaps it's the whole text versus in person thing - but the tone of the complaints really comes across as aggressive displeasure - and may be turning off people to a great device. I don't think that does anyone a service. Now, if there are some who really are interested in the Z...

Also - customer service - as if a month ago or so it was still the same top notch lightning speed response from them / Saturday, Sunday, any day. I think it's because they are so good that it is noticeable (not by me mind you) hat it slows when they are stressed with other things like new...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

From the perspective of someone who has had the Z for a year and half now - the "bug" to me is a non issue. It in no way prevents me from crafting recipes and brewing. Period. Would I like to see it fancier with an easier interface - sure - but this issue by no means would come close to making...

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

I agree with all of this...I also think for the purposes of getting great beer, a p value of 0.05 may be too strict. This being said - I love what they do, and it does influence how I brew for myself - which is honestly the most important target audience

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

I think your being a bit unrealistic about this. I'm a scientist, both involved in clinical trials as well as molecular and cellular biology, and everyone in these fields uses the p value and I've never heard of it being abandoned. While the statisticians may moved on, science has...

    Treehouse Brewing Julius Clone

Just so I understand - do you not agree with his data, the conclusions, the methodology? I am a scientist and one thing I say to myself every day - the data is the data...you can't argue with it, but you can argue with the methods and the conclusions. One would have to say here that they somehow...

    Extra Special Bitter (ESB) Recipe

My advice would be to use British crystals instead of US - they taste more "English" I also agree with temp - start at 68' increase to 70-72 after 3-4 days.

Golden Naked Oats in a non-dark beer?

I recently used them in a British golden ale - golden promise, the golden naked oats, some terrified wheat, and some invert sugar and American hops. Was great!

Foaming, despite tons of line... help!

I had his problem - and to some degree I think you just can't extend lines indefinitely to get highly curbed beer out. One big problem with me was temp variation. If one part of the line is warmer then the others, the gas will come out of solution in the line and give you foam. A fan in your...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

OK - not English - but ? Related? I was listening to the recent interview of Ron Pattinson on The Breer Smith podcast, and I then re-read the section of Scottish ales in his great book. I was thinking of making the Younger's No. 3 recipe from ? 1879? It's all pale malt, hopped with cluster and...

    Danby DBC120BLS

I bought one of these for multi-use, part time fermentation chamber mainly. I also want to use it as a cooler for the dispensing of cask ale, and need to drill a hole through which I will pass 1/2 inch siphon tubing. I can't seem to find anything on here or elsewhere regarding where I might...

How bad did I screw up? Fermenter not air tight

Don't worry - many very experienced Brewers simply use tin foil on the top for the first several days...look up Yorkshire squares or the burton Union system... That will calm you down

    Lazy magnolia's southern pecan

This may have been mentioned - but I'll add it anyway...was just listening to the CYBI episode in. holgate nut brown - and the brewer mentions he was inspired by the southern pecan beer from LM. He specifically mentions that based on what he learned from visiting LM, they chop, roast, and add...

Toppling Goliath pseudoSue - Can you clone it?

Heavy - sorry for the silly question, but what's the difference between the steeping hop addition and the zero minute addition?
