    Whirpooling with a plate chiller

I think I read somewhere, probably on a forum here, that hop baskets like I have plug when doing that. I would think adjusting the flow would help. I definitely will try that with my next batch that has whirlpool hops. Since I have a ton of hops in the freezer and I'm a hop head myself it...

    OK that makes sense

    Whirpooling with a plate chiller

That was my concern, the break plugging the chiller. Glad to hear it's not a problem. Why do you recirculate for an hour?

    Whirpooling with a plate chiller

I agree, I don't want to have to spend an extra $15 or more and fart around with it if not necessary. I'll try your idea. I have a chest freezer for fermentation so getting the temp down shouldn't be a problem. Might take a while to get to lager pitching temps though. Just had a thought. The...

    Whirpooling with a plate chiller

Was thinking of recirculating through the chiller back to the kettle. My problem here is the ridiculously warm water temps. I just moved to AZ from Wisconsin and there our well water temp was about 55º year round. I haven't measured it but the "cold" water here right now feels warm coming out of...

Temp too high in DIY Bar build - any advice?

I agree but I would think a fan of some sort would help both with the cooling and the ice buildup.

    New False Bottom

Well while I was typing it seems my question was answered. Got to learn to type faster!

    New False Bottom

Not to hijack the thread but... I was given a 10 gallon cooler with a false bottom. I haven't used it yet but after reading about how well they work I ordered a bag from Brew Bag for it. I've been wondering if it would be better leave the FB in when using it or removing it. It seems to me that...

    Whirpooling with a plate chiller

I've been brewing for a number of years with a simple system where I used an IC and let a good portion of the break and hops go into the fermenter. I've now acquired a kettle with a whirlpool arm, side pickup, pump and plate chiller. My plan was after the boil to hook the pump to the return on...

American Wheat Beer Mosaic Honey Wheat

It just seemed like it was pretty far off. I'll mess around with the hop additions to get it closer to 25 Thanks!

American Wheat Beer Mosaic Honey Wheat

I'd like this for my next brew but when I put it in Beersmith it comes up with 45 IBUs instead of what the OP has as 25 IBUs. Anyone have this too bitter with the hops as listed?

I'm obviously missing something. What are you controlling with the PID?

Maybe you should send those pics to NB. Might give them an idea for an upgrade.

    Water adjustment question

Beersmiths water tool does address PH though I had to look around and it's in the mash section. It doesn't have anything separate about strike and sparge water though. I have the free version of Bru'n Water and I'll have to check it out. Cheers!

    Water adjustment question

I'm going to try adjusting the water profile for the first time with my next batch. I'm starting with RO water and using Beersmiths water adjustment tool. Where it calls for the amount of water I'm confused. Should I be adjusting the full volume of water or just the strike water and sparge with...

In praise of DIY PBW for beerstone!

TSP 90 is a TSP substitute. See this recipe for homemade PBW. I use it and it works great! https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=467655
