CO2 Tank Stand Plans or Source

Not to hijack the thread but I was wondering how many LPM of O2 you used when oxygenating. I just got a flow meter but haven't used it yet. I'm going to have to copy your stand too to mount it.

so far the yeast I pitched a no hitter .

I had a similar issue with my last batch. Normally I make starters and rehydrate dry yeast but I was in a rush so I pitched a pack of dry yeast that I just got from the LHBS and was well before the best by date into the fermenter, let it sit for about 15 minutes then swirled it in. Not the best...

Mini Regulator as a Spunding Valve?

One way to find out, try it. That's one of the things I like about home brewing is the experimentation.

Mini Regulator as a Spunding Valve?

No I'm afraid they won't work. They are designed to control the pressure upstream (the serving keg) from the source (the CO2 cartridge). What you need is a back pressure regulator that controls the pressure of the source, the fermenter. A pressure release valve is a simple example and what most...

    Gelatin fining and bottling

Just don't do what I did the first time I tried using gelatin. I don't know what I was thinking but I used a whole packet and while the beer was very clear it left quite a gooey mess on the bottom of the fermenter.

    Gelatin fining and bottling

I believe that if you get the gelatin much over 160º it denatures the proteins. <edit> I know read that somewhere but one method Knox suggests is to mix with sugar and pour boiling water over it. I would think that would be well over 160º. So much for that idea.

    RO Water Storage?

That's also what I do. We have a small RO system under the kitchen sink but I'm not sure how long it would take to produce 10+ gallons. A place near me has a self fill station for $0.27 a gallon. I got some 5 gallon water bottles from Walmart.com for cheap and they're made in USA. A neighbor of...

Pumps held in place by magnet through bottom of table?

They'd have to be some really strong magnets to give you any problems. Even if they were the magnetic field shouldn't have any affect on the motor and if it did it would be blocked by the motor casing. I wouldn't think the magnets would be strong enough and close enough to the pump head to...

Grainfather controller fried on 4th use

That's the one thing that's kept me from getting one of those all in one systems. If something like that happens in a couple years then what do you do toss it and buy another? I also don't like the mix of water, heat and electronics. I will admit though there's been several days that I wish I'd...

    Liquid TSP

From the bottles I've seen it's liquid "TSP substitute" and is Sodium Metasilicate. I've made the homemade PBW too and both this, in powdered form, and Oxyclean are part of the recipe. If you look up the thread of the PBW recipe you could find out what it actually does in cleaning equipment.

    Suggestion on "Wort theft" brew

I think I will go with a Belgian yeast and lightly dry hopping it. Probably something noble like Tettanger or Saaz. I'm also thinking of zesting some lemons, soak it in vodka overnight and add it the day before I keg. You've got me completely turned around from what I was originally thinking of...

    Suggestion on "Wort theft" brew

No that's all I know right now. Might know more closer to the date in mid August. Yes they make some excellent beers.

    Suggestion on "Wort theft" brew

Hmmm... I was just thinking about a beer with lemon zest. I'm not that familiar with Belgian yeasts. Any suggestions? Something not too "Belgiany", too funky?

    Suggestion on "Wort theft" brew

My HB Club has made arrangements for a local brewery to give a number of us some boiled finished wort which they're dubbing a wort theft. The deal is we do what we want with fermentation, dry hopping or whatever and keep notes on what we do. All we know now as it's going to be a SMASH bittered...

Can you smell a CO2 leak?

I used to get my tanks filled at a place that did a lot of CO2 commercial tanks. The last time I was there a big, about 3 feet in diameter, tank on the loading dock blew its over pressure valve which stuck. They had no choice but to let it vent and we never smelled anything. I have smelled and...

Getting a pump(Finally), ball valve question....

I've wondered about that too. I would recommend if you plan on taking it apart do it the first time before mounting it. Some of them can be a real bitch to get apart the first time.
