    Too offensive for holidays?

It seems fairly tame and subtle to me. In my opinion, if someone is offended by that, they deserve to be made to feel uncomfortable. If it's an occasion with libation, loosen up!

Attempting an "Apple Ale" - suggestions?

My friend and I made a very similar recipe a few months ago. I don't have the %'s on hand, but it was 2-row, a light crystal, carapils, and honey malt. We bittered with brewers gold, and finished with Willamette. We did 4 gallons into the fermenter and added a gallon of apple juice. It...

im a week out from bottling my first batch, need some instruction.

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/bottling-tips-homebrewer-94812/ That, then don't touch it for AT LEAST 2 weeks. Three is better. Sanitize anything that could think about touching the beer. Basically, beer needs to make it into the bottle in a clean way with priming sugar, and the caps need...

    Washed yeast and nutrient

Simply put, the question is do I need yeast nutrient in a starter of sugar and water with washed yeast. The reason I ask the question is I assume there is enough dead yeast cells in the washed yeast to negate the use of nutrient.

    How to save money homebrewing

I buy bulk grains and hops, and I am constantly looking for better deals. I reuse starsan until the ph is to high, and I test my starsan ph with ph paper I bought in bulk at a teacher supply store. I make nearly all of my brewing equipment. I made my HLT and keggle from old Hoff-Stevens...

    Want to Mash Buckwheat

Not at all! I've been eating buckwheat pancakes since I was a kid. They're delicious!

    Washed yeast and nutrient

I'm not sure if it's necessary, but when I make a starter out of extract I always add yeast nutrient. Now that I harvest and wash yeast, it seems even more unnecessary because of the dead yeast cells in the washed yeast provide nutrition. For the sake of giving a situation with a control...

    The Hops Shack

They're now my primary source for hops and specialty grains. Prices are amazing and I get my order in 1-2 days.

    Shelf life of prepared Starsan

When I mix starsan with my tap water and I get about a month out of it. It clouds up in about a minute or so but I test the PH before each use to make sure it's good.

    Jiggawatt ale

I did a stout last week that was 1.088, 1 qt/lb and 4.5 gallons into the fermenter. Beersmith says 78% efficiency. That's the biggest beer I've ever tried with that thick of a mash. I double batch sparged, and ground the living crap out of my grains with a pound of rice hulls in the mash.

    What is this? Infection?

Looks like a nice healthy krausen to me!

    Jiggawatt ale

I regularly mash at 1 qt per lb with 75% to 80% efficiency. At 77% with 21 lbs of 2-row its 5.25 gallons and about 1.210 O.G.

    Best chiller

I just measured my tap water on a freshly calibrated thermometer. Outside temp is 32, my tap water is 48. I don't consider my area (near Pittsburgh) to be particularly cold, maybe slightly cooler than average. I siphon wort through a homemade counter flow chiller with 3/8 copper pipe...

Cooling wort without running water: HELP

I would imagine your idea with the IC would work just as well as a CFC as long as you had enough ice to keep the water around the chiller cool. Either pump it through or elevate your kettle enough to get a good siphon through it. I siphon my wort through a CFC and it comes out the other side...

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

I'm a mechanic so most of my time is spent cursing at engineers under my breath for hiding that last bell housing bolt behind something.

What can i do with these ingredients?

If you used safale 04 make sure you keep that sucker cool. I personally don't let that ferment in air temperature over 60 or else I end up with bubble gum beer.

3 gallon ball lock, 2 tier brew stand w/ burners, carboys and better bottles

If you would ship the specialty grain I might be interested. What do you have and how much $?

    Oxygen cleaner?

I use that brand and have not had any adverse effects on my brews. I often fill my better bottle with it and forget about it for a week or two until I brew next. Never had any off smells or discoloration of the bottles.
