Interesting genome sequencing of some yeasts

Now I want to know if WLP833 is WY2487. I don't think these were compared.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

That's funny. I really like this idea. But I thought spunding with hoppy beers got a bit of a black eye due to one of Janish's blog posts on the topic: http://scottjanish.com/fermenting-dry-hopping-pressure/ so I had basically been avoiding it. Maybe your method produces a different results...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I just tried a Sabro fresh hop at Lagunitas and holy smokes, who ever said coconut was not messing around. Absolute coconut bomb. I've got a pound of it but I haven't used it yet. And after drinking that beer I'm going to be very hesitant about adding it to an NEIPA for fear of it ruining it...

What I did for beer today

Local homebrew shop had come across about six of them. They were only $100 each (used)! You can find them online but they're ridiculously expensive at around $300 I think.

Possibly better? More like for sure better. It's all 3". I didn't try dumping any hops yet but I really can't see there being an issue with that size with pellet hops given the size / angle. I can't wait to try it. I just need to build a collar for my chamber and I'll be off to the races!

What I did for beer today

Yep. Allows the fermentation co2 to flush the hops and oxygen free dry hopping!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I gained some inspiration from @kevink and others and modified the 10 gallon corny I acquired: I was previously "pre purging" my dry hop charge in a mason jar with co2, then hooking up the CO2 when actually opening the keg to dry hop. This streamlines that process big time.

What I did for beer today

So I did a thing with that 10 gallon corny I acquired...

What size TC does it neck down to? It looks small. Are you worried about the hops getting jammed up in it?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

There will still be a lot of O2 entrained between the pellets when you go to actually put them into your fermenter. When you go to open the ziploc bag, air will rush in, ultimately defeating the purpose. I agree with your comments. The best I've come up with is this. I do this the day before...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

No I agree 100%! I wonder if that's where the unmet expectation is here for me. If you took 3068 and expected to make a clean blonde with it you'd be... Well, probably not not expecting what you'd get. I do think I've maybe tried to brew the wrong beers for this yeast. It's just with all the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Dude I gotta say. After leaving this for a bit the dankness is coming through a bit more both on the aroma and flavor side. I think it's pretty darn close to what I was looking for! Might try playing with the ratios and perhaps adding Columbus to the dry hop.

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I see what you did there ;).

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I'm not trying to sound contrarian, but is anyone else just simply not a fan of this yeast? I tried a blonde at recommended temps in the 80s/90s and it isn't very good. Quite estery and "Homebrew" tasting. I tried a red at low 70s. It's only been a week but I don't think it's going to be...

What I did for beer today

Locally. One of the Homebrew shops got ahold of a bunch of them somehow.

Now that I've got my hands on Sabro, may try this unless I can be convinced otherwise.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Took your advice and brewed this with the following grist: 8% flaked oats 8% oat malt 8% White wheat 4% Golden naked oats balance 2-row yeast: pillaged from a Back Country Brewing can which is Escarpment Labs 1318 according to them. I've never used oat malt and lately I've been staying away...

What I did for beer today

Scored this bad boy today. 10 gallon ferments here I come! Cost me $100 but well worth it I think. I currently do 4.5 gal batches in the 5 gallon shown. Just need to rig up the floating dip tube in it, build a collar for my freezer and I'm off to the races. Will also allow me to do 5 gallon...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I did a Loral pale ale which consisted of: 2-row a bit of Victory All Loral: small bittering addition 1oz 15 min 2 oz flameout Pitched Hornindal at 85F, raised to 90F 2 days later where it finished. I'm not the biggest fan of this beer. Not sure if it's the Loral or the ester profile from...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Looking for advice: When I'm biking in Squamish BC I frequent Back Country Brewing. I'd highly recommend you check them out if you're in the area. They currently have this on tap: https://www.backcountrybrewing.com/beers/grandpa-joes-insurance-fraud-pale-ale/ It's the perfect mix of tropical...
