    Omega Lutra yeast?

I was a skeptic. Not a fan of Kviek in general (blasphemy I know). I had a packet of Lutra sitting in my fridge since last summer and I decided to brew with it, no starter. I have to say, this beer turned out clean, shockingly clean. It's not quite a lager, but it definitely earned the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I did draw my inspiration from @kevink . You know, I thought of this and I am concerned about it as well. I don't like the thought of the hops sitting there for days either, but for the majority of the time they will be surrounded by CO2. A one time purge isn't really a straightforward...

New product from Brewers Hardware Dry Hopper

I just posted an update to mine in the NEIPA thread. I drew inspiration from @kevink awhile back I assembled my own from parts from Glacier tanks: 3" weld ferrule 3x 3" tri clover clamps 3" trigger butterfly valve 3" x 4"L spool 3" x 1/2" NPT adapter NPT elbow $241 shipped. This one being...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I did to a point. But I still had some minor oxidation. I'm aiming for zero basically. I don't consume my beers quickly these days. A local homebrew shop had about five of them second hand and it was first come first served. It was reasonably priced if I recall too; under or around $100 I think.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

This is my attempt at avoiding o2 pickup. I welded a triclover assembly onto a 10 gal corny that functions as a "dry hop cannon". Here's how it works: -Dry hop charge in the cannon at yeast pitch. The cannon valve (blue handle) is cracked enough to let gas through but prevents hops from...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I was a fan of this hop when I tried it about a year ago. I really don't feel like it ever got the attention it deserves. As a matter of fact it only comes up less than 10 times in this thread. Glad someone else is on it.

Battle of the West Coasts: OYL-004 vs. WLP001 vs. Wyeast 1764 Pacman

I need to try Pacman again. When I tried it in a clean ale, I swore I got a bit of a mineral note / tang from it. There's also the strong possibility that that note came from somewhere else in my brewing process. Have you noticed this as well?

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

This looks great man. Gonna try it!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Anyone try Imperials pitch of Bell's strain with this style?

    ButterBeer (cures hangovers)

    So... A NEIPA.

    Are dented kegs okay?

What dent is "serious"? Bigger than dime sized? Bigger than golf ball sized? Crushed in half? There is lots of literature out there on dents in pressure vessels. Pipeline literature I've read states that you'd have to have a dent d/D>.25 where d is the dent depth and D is the diameter of the...

    Italian Pilsner Discussion

You most likely are not thinking of the same "Italian Style" Pilsner that is being brewed today on the craft level. I don't know what your knowledge is on the subject, but it's a confusing label. When I first heard it I was like "oh like Peroni?". No, not like Peroni at all. Think German...

From the lab - family tree of White Labs yeast

I must have missed this post! Some great stuff here. I take it my best alternative if I want to get close to Elysian / A30 / BRY-96 group might be Bells? A guy can order it from the Bells store. I keep wondering if there's a more common WLP equivalent in there somewhere.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Can you point me to a post of yours with the recipe? I did a single hop with 2019 Riwaka and it was underwhelming. Maybe I can put the remainder to use with your recipe where hopefully the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

One of my favorites is: WP: 3:3 Citra Simcoe DH: 3:3:2 Citra Simcoe Sabro Give it a shot. The Sabro comes through really nicely.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've been using A38 Juice almost exclusively for this style. I do really like it, but I'm looking to branch out to something a bit more attenuative but with a profile that still suits the style. My thoughts are: -Pacman -WLP007 -1056 I've already tried some with 1272 and they turned out ok...

Interesting genome sequencing of some yeasts

@dmtaylor a notification popped of on my phone randomly of your spreadsheet getting a bunch of attention on Reddit. Apparently I wasn't the only one stoked on it. Low key proud of you haha. It's a good spreadsheet. I reference it a lot. Question to anyone: I really wanted to try A30 Corporate...

    Ever Dumped a Brew? Regrets?

I happily dump way more beers now than I did before. And that's not because I'm making more bad beer than I did before. On the contrary, I am honing my process with every brew and becoming more picky. I'd rather dump meh beer and make room for another another that I could be getting way more...

    Over sized fermenter

Why bother purging with CO2 at the prior to fermentation at all? The volume of CO2 produced from fermentation is very large in comparison to fermenter volume at the homebrew scale and you should almost be guaranteed to be left with a 100% CO2 headspace after fermentation is complete.

German Pils Bo Berry Pils (West Coast Pilsner)

I believe that's it. WLP will be releasing in the Oct-Nov-Dec rotation. I'm going to try it as well.
