Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I think you could add kool-aid packets at bottling (mix with your priming liquid). Maybe 1 packet per gallon for strong flavors and 1 packet per 2 gallons for something a little more subtle? Haven't tried this, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

    Evil Twin Citra Sunshine Slacker

I have been wanting to get a good recipe for a session IPA after trying one of these a few weeks ago. After working with a few other recipes, I decided to email Evil Twin and see if they would be willing to share. Lo and behold, he responded within the hour with the following email. Thanks for...

    "Session" IPA Critique

I'm glad I brought this up then! I thought that it was the heat that drove off the flavor/aroma compounds and that is why you were supposed to do a stand at less than 200. I'll do 1/2 at flame out and the other half after 15 minutes for a total of 30 minute stand. Thanks for the info.

    "Session" IPA Critique

I completely agree with brewing a smaller batch the first time around. The only reason this one was 11 gallons is because the recipe I started with was this size and I scaled the ingredients for that size batch. I have been reading up on hopstands and will be doing my first recipe with one in...

What I did for beer today

Tired of getting water from an outside source, so I had a plumber come out and install this before the water softener in the garage. Sending a sample to Ward this week to see if my well water is suitable. Fingers crossed.

    What to do after under-priming?

13 gallons for 2.7 vol Co2 should be around 1.5 cups of table sugar. So if you put in half (1.75 cups) it should be about right. What temp are your bottles being stored at? If it's less than 70 degrees, try moving them to the warmest spot in your house for a week or so and see if that helps. To...

    "Session" IPA Critique

I have read several of the threads about this, and I think this might work. (Full disclosure this is a scaled down version of the Zombie clone recipe that I believe meets the criteria for a session.) I am very new to the recipe building aspect of brewing and am hoping some of you may be able to...

    Cooling after fermentation starts

A few days ago I brewed a nut brown (the one from this site). Hit my OG of 1.056 cooled to 70 and pitched Notty. This was a 10 gallon batch so I have it split into 2 fermenters. One started in 12 hours and the temp rose a bit too much to 71. The second one didn't start for over 24 hours but is...

Proud of my new set up....

It is hard as a new brewer to trust that the yeast is doing its thing without visual affirmation. The SS brew bucket is a very nice addition, but don't discard your plastic bucket just yet. Next time you ferment in it, wrap the top of it with Saran Wrap. This will provide a much better seal and...

    brew kettle

Although I am not familiar with that particular kettle, I will give you an opinion based on my limited brewing career. I recently started doing BIAB batches and opted for a Bayou Classic 15.5gal pot with steamer basket insert. The quality seems more than acceptable and I would recommend it. The...

British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

I am looking to brew a 10 gallon batch of this soon and am wondering if someone could help me out with hop additions. I added everything to my brew software and came up with 3.25oz fuggle @ 60 minutes and 3oz EKG @ 15 minutes to reach 21.8 IBU. Is this correct?

    Testing Gravity

This would have put you with an OG of around 1.059 and an ABV of 6.6%. It should be done. You can wait a day or two and do another reading of you like. I would feel safe throwing it in a bottle at that FG.

    How much yeast needed?

Are you sure about the pitch temp? The Fermentis website says to rehydrate in 80 degree water for 30 minutes. Is this information out dated?

    Wort chilling question

Since you are only doing a 2 gallon batch, putting the pot into a sink filed with ice water should cool it sufficiently fast. I did my first extract batch this way without issue.

Primary Bucket lid not air tight

I too had concern using the 6.5 gallon buckets and not seeing much airlock activity. Opened it yesterday to add dry hop and everything was perfectly fine. The second batch I brewed, I wrapped plastic film wrap around the lid/bucket after applying the lid. Though this isn't technically air tight...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Andes Mint Chocolate Stout

Brewed this two days ago as my first AG BIAB. Used the recipe from the OP with the only addition being +10% base malt to compensate for decreased efficiency. Also added 1lb lactose at boil. Hit my numbers better than anticipated with OG of 1.065. Wort tasted bittersweet (as expected with cocoa)...
