    The Great Brettanomyces Experiment

Yeah, I've really wanted to do the zombie dust clone, but couldn't help myself from pairing all that citra with just a little Amarillo and cascade. Ended up with 11 gal of a 1.072 IPA with over a pound of hops int the boil (most in the last 15 minutes) and will be dry hopping with about 10 oz of...

    The Great Brettanomyces Experiment

I am also very interested in this. I just brewed a 10 gallon batch that was loosely based on the Zombie Dust clone floating around here (but with Amarillo and Cascade added to the heavy Citra dose for depth). Half my batch got Brett L, and the other half with Chico. I'm really excited to see how...

    US-05 (dry) vs WY1056 (liquid) - My tests/results

I haven't. Mostly because I really don't like that flavor in s beer and am doing my best to avoid it. Also, for Chico, I've only used 1056 once and never 001 - to me, I've heard so many times that they are the same as US 05 that I don't buy the liquid equivalent anymore. I think that if kept in...

    US-05 (dry) vs WY1056 (liquid) - My tests/results

I have a cream ale that I fermented at about 59-60 deg f with US 05 and it definitely has an apricoty or peachy flavor to hit. Hoping it fades, but I will never do US 05 that low again.

    Adding coffee to light beer

I'm having Dayman as I type. Man is it surprisingly good! It sounds weird, but man o man it blends so nicely. I don't see a thread on it yet so I'm gonna try and clone this one. According to the bottle its a citra based (which I have over 2.5lbs of) IPA with coffee. So good, but as you can see...

    Caliente hops?

    Soo.... Anyone try these?

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I've made both and I would say the the blonde has a maltier backbone, while this is just a really light beer with almost no hop or outstanding malt presence. I think it is the most like a BMC that an ale recipe can get. Think almost like a Japanese beer, but with a little something like a...

Most famous person from your high school

Graduated with Teagan Presley. Of course, that's not the name she graduated with.... Not super famous I guess, but the most from my graduating class that I can think of...

    Caliente hops?

Any update on the results from these hops? I really want to brew with them, but I've got so many other varieties calling me to use them in my freezer that I really want to make my next brew count. I've got a citra Zombie Dust clone up next, but I was thinking of a double brew day with one of the...

    Fruit Beer Watermelon Wheat

I do all grain. If I remember correctly (need to check my notes) I used the original all grain recipe posted by the OP and added 8 cups that I got from blending the meat of the watermelon and straining through some cheesecloth to the secondary. This will restart fermentation, so I wouldn't do it...

    Fruit Beer Watermelon Wheat

I used 8 cups of fresh watermelon juice and it was puuurrrfect. As soon as watermelons come back into season this is definitely going to be brewed again!

    Campden tablets advertisement

Do you mean whirlfloc? I think you will be having some fermentation issues if it was campden you threw in that fermenter. But yeah, whirlfloc is some good stuff - so easy too.

    Fermenting Temperature Location

Saisons and Belgians throw off some delicious esters at those higher temps. Basically anything that you want a subdued yeast profile (ale) should be kept at 65f or below, ambient. I usually ferment all my ales that I want clean at 60f in my freezer chamber, but up to 80f or higher with saisons.

    Hop Growers in Southern California

So do you just cut the bines, dip in root hormone and grow normally. I've never done this for hops, but have for other plants and was successful. Will this work for hops? If so I'd be happy to do so in the spring and share them. They already should be acclimated to the SoCal weather.

    Hop Growers in Southern California

They're all doing well. Magnum and the Nugget seem to be doing the best, but only marginally. I really want to get some aroma varieties in the ground like centennial and cascade. Prob won't take any rhizome cuttings just yet, as they're only 3 yrs old, but for sure next year!

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

You may end up with a more fermentable wort, which will leave your beet dryer. Not a bad thing for this recipe, I usually mash this beer at 148-150 which is perfect for me. What I would be more concerned with is your lack of a good boil. I'd say its about time to invest in a good outdoor...

    Words and phrases I hate

Haha, yeah, you're basically correct. But its usually preceded by 'like, ummm, like' or 'totally'..... Damn... I knew I shouldn't have put OC in my username.... Not even from here - born and raised in San Diego and here for work now. I guess the accent down there is just the typical stoned...
