    Electric appliance to boil wort?

This is all true. My intention was just to make it clear that while your home gets 240v power it’s relatively likely that people will need to get electrical work done in order to use such a device in their desired location. Much more likely than if this cooktop used a 120v outlet, at the very least.

    Electric appliance to boil wort?

I think that it would boil five gallons pretty easily with a good induction-capable kettle. I know somebody who has an 1800 watt induction cooktop and theirs will boil five gallons, though not with a particularly rigorous boil. Please note that the linked Avantco model uses a different plug...

    I’d be really smart.....—x

I’m surprised that the hair drier kept going overnight! I love the mental picture of waking up in the morning, hearing the droning noise of the drier and thinking “oh no.” Glad it came out ok!

New Brewer, Big Mouth Bubbler lid fix, and first brew.

The photographs of the wort boiling in the pot make me anxious -looks like a small amount of inattention could cause a huge mess!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed up an altbier base today that I’ll be pitching London ale yeast into shortly.

How often do you brew a lager?

I’ve recently bought a chest freezer to make into a fermentation chamber. I’m looking forward to use it to make my first lager in 2018. I’ve got a couple ales in the pipeline first, but I think that I should be able to give lagers a shot sometime in February.

    German IPA

I’ve got to say - I had no idea that BIAB could deal with grain milled so fine. It makes me think that I could go finer!

Possible reasons for a negative ABV?

This seems like a perfectly reasonable explanation for a multi-scale hydrometer.

    White Labs lawsuit

I take it you’re in the legal field, considering you know the above and that the firm they went with is a prestigious and expensive one. Do you have a take on the strength of the complaint? It seems reasonable to me, though I’d imagine proof might be difficult to come by.

    Left over brew

I recently did something similar - made a batch with what I had laying around, including a lot of small amounts of various types of hops. It’s not going to win any awards, but the resulting beer is pretty good!

    What are you drinking now?

Haven’t had a brew in a few days in anticipation of an upcoming race. Well, the race is over and I could use some extra calories. :D

    What are you drinking now?

Homebrew cyser. Forgot I’d made this until I was taking stock this past weekend.

    What are you drinking now?

Your profile says Michigan but your beer and glassware says Virginia.

    What are you drinking now?

That’s how it starts! Congrats on your first brew. I’ve got a homebrewed cider from last year. I’m starting to run low on this batch.

    What are you drinking now?

You’ve only got until the end of tomorrow to drink it before it turns into a pumpkin, or something.

    What are you drinking now?

Pumpkin pi - I like it! This label was the most Halloween themed in my fridge - time to drink it.

    DC Group Buy #21

If anybody is interested in making some cider this fall, Distillery Lane Ciderworks is selling a fresh pressed blend of apple cider for $12/gallon on November 4. They grow a wide variety of apples and this juice will almost certainly be higher in tannins than what you can get at the store...

    What are you drinking now?

Picked this up last weekend at the LHBS after telling myself that I wouldn’t buy any beer because I’ve got plenty of homebrew that needs drinking.

    DC Group Buy #21

According to the forum software, he logged in to the forum last on 9/30. Maybe he's on vacation or super busy with work.

    DC Group Buy #21

This isn’t group buy related, but it is DC-area related: Flying Dog in Frederick is doing a guided tasting of their seasonal beers on Saturday, November 4. Registration is here and spots are $30. They’ve got some other neat courses coming up as well - I’m registered for the real ale course...
