For the first part. The answer is yes. The krausen do get bacterias and the co2 also helps.. You may find some biology articles online that will states that (some) bacteria prefer an enriched O2 environment. In my opinion (which is based on what I read) this blanket is a mix of the two...

The purpose of removing the krausen is to remove any airborne bacteria the might have landed on the krausen. Plus... After skimming of the krausen, you should take a long spoon and arouse the yeast by mixing the beer.

When I did open fermentation I did it in my shower room.. So it's a lot of things, but it not sterile :) The co2 blanket along with the krausen form a protecting blanket. And every day you should take off the Krausen. My ale started 1.050 and after Two days the FG 1.008..These conditions are...

The same method worked out for me too.... I have brewed a simple ale, in order to check it out. it wae in the late spring (the temp was in the low 80f). i ptiched a nice, big and healthy starter... after 5 hours there was some krausen. Here are some pics of the fermentation in imgur...

I encountered the same (more or less) bubbles.. It was when i used the us-05 american ale. Those stange bubbles appeared after my ale fermentation became slower (6 days!!) Take a big sniff, if it smells like the yeast profile then it should be alright. Try to remember in your pitching...

Great. I will give a few more days to stay in the safe side.. After that i will check the gravity before bottling. The fermentation temprute was 19 c, and it is the first time that it took so long.. Thank you once again for the kind help! Cheers!

yep. I give them fertilizer depending on the stage of the plant and the climate. starting with compost (year round).. in the end of the rain season, i give them some long active chemical fertilizer (those little brown balls), and just before the blooming of the cones a small portion of 20/20...

The containers are 25 Liters (6.6 gallons). I have planted them in the spring of last year, and they have grown to about 5 meters (19 feet). The centennial gave about 1.78 oz, because the summer sun here kicked his a** off... Maybe next year i'll move them into a bigger containers..
