Trub Going Into Carboy - Bad or OK?

I think if you are saving/repitching the yeast after fermentation, especially hoppy beers, getting clearer wort into your fermenter is better, from the yeast standpoint. Other than that, it doesn't really matter. Do what you feel! If you are into speedy brewdays or are a lazy slob(Me), go ahead...

Recirculating eBiab return location - sidewall vs lid

Skip the basket, go with the BIAB false bottom from brew hardware. I have had fewer recirculation problems since I switched. As far as the recirculation return , I run mine through the lid, but there are times I wish it wasn't. I think the texaswine setup is the way to go

    No fermentation again and again

Another thing to check is the accuracy of your thermometer. If that's off, it can affect your beer.

Ball lock disconnect connection procedures? Best practices?

I like to spray a little starsan on the connector and post as well. Helps lube it up a bit!

    No fermentation again and again

Are you adjusting your final refractometer readings to account for alcohol? Refractometers aren't accurate when alcohol is present-you have to use a calculator to get a close final reading.

    Wisconsin Western Wisconsin Brewery/Brewpub Recommendations?

Dave's Brew Farm is near Eau Claire. I've never been there, but it sounds like a fun visit. They have limited hours, so check with them first.

Best practices - Time fermenting; Bottling; Conditioning

Generally speaking, 1. Until it's done fermenting. 2. Until it's carbonated. 3. After it's carbonated.

American Pale Ale Sunshine Rye Pale Ale

Too late! I threw in an ounce of Citra and an ounce of Galaxy last night! Thanks for the input, though. I might try that combo next time.

Hefe Yeast Options-Calling All Hefe Specialists!

It's not readily available, but the White Labs WLP611 New Nordic Yeast from their Yeast Vault series makes a fantastic Hefe! You'll have to be patient waiting for it though.

American Pale Ale Sunshine Rye Pale Ale

I brewed up a batch of this last weekend, as it has been a few months since the last batch, which is too long to go without this beer! I used Citra for the flameout hops on this batch, and I'm trying to decide what to throw in for the dryhop. I've got Citra, Galaxy, Mosaic, Chinook, Columbus...

Did Blichmann Just Change Their Beer Gun Tip Design?

After further review, mine is different. They have redesigned it. I hadn't looked at mine in a while, because I don't use the crappy thing because of the tip falling off regularly. Replacement tips were $4-5 at Northern Brewer, furthering my distaste for this particular Blingmann product.

Did Blichmann Just Change Their Beer Gun Tip Design?

Looks the same as mine that's a couple of years old.

    BIAB Thermometer

I've got both. The Thermapen is portable and handy to have for cooking and grilling as well. Downsides for brewing is it's not really a leave it in there type device, and the electronics are close to the liquid in case it slips out of your hand. Benefits of the chef alarm include the...

    BIAB Thermometer

Usually the part that does the actual measurement is in the 1st 1" of the probe tip.

    Refractometer needs frequent calibration

You're not getting lab grade test equipment for $25-$50:D I calibrate mine before every reading-it takes a minute and a couple of drops of distilled water. I learned my lesson after I had a brew where my post mash, pre-boil and post boil numbers were way off and all over the place. As a last...

Outdoor Brewers - what do you do in the winter?

That's a backflow preventer(aka vacuum breaker). It acts as a one way check valve. Has nothing to do with freeze protection.

Another consideration would be chloramines in untreated tap water.

    Craft/Homebrewing Neighborhoods in Twin Cities

Northeast Mpls has the most taprooms, and is home of the Nordeast Brewers Alliance(NBA) club. You've got homebrew stores within 20 minutes of you in all directions. Housing stock can be crappy, especially pre-war age.
