    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed a Citra/Mosaic/Galaxy NEIPA, and this was not a good brew day! Started off early, 5am, as usual and everything was going as planned until the boil. At only 5 degrees outside, my SP10 burner was struggling to keep a boil. About half way through, I moved everything down into the garage...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Hey All, I have 4oz each of Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy and am planning out my hopping schedule. I'm going to use .3oz of the Mosaic at 60min, and am going to split the rest between a flameout, whirlpool, and two dry hops. I was planning on doing basically 1:1:1 (except for the .3oz of mosaic at...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2017?

Been a fairly slow brewing year due to having a one year old and another on the way. Put me down for 40 gallons. 11,415 + 40 = 11,455

Is color an indication of yeast health?

Thanks! It’s not black, and it smells like...well, like a brewery. Here a pics of the settled yeast: I’ll probably use it for my next brew.

Is color an indication of yeast health?

I had some 2nd gen 1318 that was washed from a brew back in February. I thought I'd use it sooner but haven't gotten back to it yet, so I threw it on the stir plate with some starter wort last night. It's definitely active but the starter is a bit of a murky brownish color. It's got a nice...

    Fatherhood And Brewing

Congrats! My brewing has taken a pretty sharp decline since our daughter was born a year ago. Just not enough time, and even an early Saturday morning brew (mashing in at 5 AM) would be asking my wife to watch our little one for a good 3-4 hours on the one day that she has a break from being a...

Calling all IPA lovers...what are your favorite 3?

My top-ranked IPAs include: Tree House - Doppelgänger Old Nation - M-43 Maine - Lunch or Another One ...but some more readily-available IPAs like Founders All Day, NEBCO Sea Hag, or Bells Two Hearted are pretty hard to beat.

    Carb time

Like I said, formulas to figure it out! I can't usually wait more than a couple days before tapping it and it's usually good enough for me.

    Carb time

Depends on temp, target volumes of CO2, etc. and I'm sure there are formulas to figure it out, but I'd say a good 3-4 days to get to a good drinking beer and a couple more to get to max carbonation. Just a ballpark estimate. I usually set my regulator to about 20-25psi for the first two days...

    Want: M43 New Orthadox Beers

Yeah but you have a good handful of posts here, so I'm sure if someone had some M43 to share, they would. Could just be that nobody has any...that they are willing to part with :)

    Want: M43 New Orthadox Beers

I think, technically speaking, trading for money is against homebrewtalk's policy since it amounts to that person selling you beer and could get them in trouble. That and your zero trade score (although everybody starts at zero), along with M43 being a somewhat valuable beer, might make people...

    Question on dual-purpose pump

After going to Home Depot and seeing that even small pumps are $100, I put my brain to use...cheapness is the mother of invention. Turns out I had a hose long enough to run the outlet to a lower point than my well head so I was able to fill the hose with water and star a siphon. Well head was...

    Question on dual-purpose pump

Good point, and I'd also need to filter the water, so a foot valve would do it. The way I see it, I could spend $50-$100 on a pump that'll only pump my well head, or I could spend a little more and have another piece of brewing equipment. Or maybe I can find a cheap way to start a siphon. John

    Question on dual-purpose pump

Hey All, Due to a high water table in my area, my well head is filling with water, so when I use a lot of water quickly (like watering my lawn or chilling 5 gallons of hot wort, for example) the rusty water in the well head seeps into the well and turns our house water brown. So I need a...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a variation on BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde. Using the same grain bill but Columbus for bittering (because I had some) and Exp Lemon Zest for flavor and aroma additions. Also using 1098. This will be a test batch for a keg I'll be bringing up to a week on the lake in August. I'll...

    Reasons Your Fermentation Didn't Start

Also, make sure that there is enough liquid in your airlock. I sometimes use starsan in my airlock, which foams a little when poured, and by the time the foam settled there wasn't enough liquid to actually seal the airlock.
