Guide to Making a Frozen Yeast Bank

My bank is officially started! I took two samples direct from a new vial of WLP002 and made two 15ml frozen samples. Then I pitched the rest into a starter and have it cultured up to 1L. Tomorrow I will take 10 samples from this first gen starter and freeze them. Then I'll pitch the rest of the...

Since we have a pile of Socal members

Picnic sounds great too. Just gotta keep the bottles on the lo-lo around the po-po. Speaking of..... has anyone seen or heard Toby Kieth's 'Red Solo Cup' song? Look it up on youtube. Anyhow, picnic's are cool, but only once in a while. I'm down for rotating Escondido, Carlsbad and central SD...

Since we have a pile of Socal members

Ok. I'll take the lead. We'll tackle one issue at a time. Location first. I have seen responses from all over the county. So we can either do a rotation of volunteer hosts, or meet at one semi central location that makes sense. I think a place like the Tap Room in PB, or urbn in North Park would...

Since we have a pile of Socal members

Hi all. I'll throw my hat in the SoCal ring. I have brewed off and on over the years, but finally am fully embracing my love for it. This year I switched to all grain as well as 10 gallon batches. Anyhow, would be great to meet up.:tank: Cheers!

    Single Tier Brew Stand Build

Good idea. As far away from heat as possible. And being on the far side of the panel it will be shielded.

    Single Tier Brew Stand Build

The shelf is a great idea. I'm sure I've seen it once or twice before. Not sure why it's not considered a standard item. I am always looking for places to set various items while I brew. Don't forget to add a cup holder for your beer! :mug:

    Big brew day ahead

:rockin: Very nice my fellow San Diegan. I have 20 gallons fermenting right now too. That SD Super worked very well for me right out of the vial 4 batches ago. Stay off the roads! It's raining in SD and we know what that means! :p

    Plastic Bottling Buckets

What are you seeing that's causing you concern? Have you opened one and smelled/tasted? When it comes to scratches, it not the size that counts ;) If you do have contamination/infection, I would recommend doing the best cleaning you've ever done, and maybe fill the bucket to the brim with...

"Guilty" confessions of a beer enthusiast

Hot summer day.....working in the garden....cold Corona or Pacifico with a lime. Almost can't be beat. Plus I can add empty bottles to my stocks. When I look at the price of empty bottles compared to a 24 pack of Pacifico at $23+tax. I'll buy my bottles filled, thank you. :tank:

Which brewstand should I go with?

Apologies OP. I really didn't want to hijack. FWIW I agree with Schnitzengiggle. My vote is #1. Cheers! :mug:

Which brewstand should I go with?

dfess1 I must confess :p, I have never heard of doing that before. Brilliant. Can you elaborate on the 'small beer'. Like volume, OG's etc? Sorry to the OP, I don't want to hijack the thread. We could take it to a new thread or PM if need be. Thanks!

    First 10 gallon batch

Ok. I'm posting EXACTLY what BS2 gave me. I have not brewed it, so just be aware of that. I only scaled the base recipe (malt and hops) the rest is really to taste. I did compare against a 6 gallon batch and it matches SRM and IBU. 22lb 1.0oz Pale 4lb 4.0oz Munich 2lb 4.9oz Brown 1lb 14.7oz...
