    Looking to clone Brooklyn Pilsner

Awesome. This is going to be my first 3 gallon all grain. Any thoughts on mash temps? Probably in the lower numbers? 30 min at 140ish, 10 at 158, mash out 165? My local brew shop has a decent hop collection so I should be able to get most of these or find a substitute that will work ok.

    Looking to clone Brooklyn Pilsner

This is one of my all time favorite lighter beers. Super crisp and a little grassy. Brooklyn website says german 2-row malt, Perle and Hallertauer hops. From site: "We ferment Brooklyn Pilsner at cool temperatures, and then give it a long, gentle maturation (lagering), which results in a...

Bottling by yourself... how do you do it?

Did one gallon today and I switched tubes. No issues with the siphon at all, must have had an air gap in the last one. Almost no spills. I found putting all the bottles close and just moving the wand to work best. Used the bottling bucket to mix priming even though its a bit ridiculous for one...

    Possible fruit infection?

It's a three gallon carb but I left so,e head space in there. Whew. Bubbles are super white and foamy. The only reason I bothered asking is because of the strawberries I added. I realize adding in the secondary would have been better but I didn't have anything to transfer it in to

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Guys I caved in and got a three gallon carb and im looking to buy a 5 gallon brew pot. But my two one gallon carboys will always see some action. I was getting bummed that I was only making 10-12 beers when they came out really well. 30ish beers is nicer once I've dialed it in So now I can...

    Possible fruit infection?

Doing a three gallon batch of a strawberry cider. I used a pound of frozen strawberries in the primary and I also always add yeast nutrient (the recommended amount per gallon) and I've never seen fermentation with big white bubbles like this. It's fermenting quite strongly still about...

Bottling by yourself... how do you do it?

This is awesome advice. I found my tube fits loosely on my auto siphon, so that could be an issue. Just want to keep everything as zen as possible. Time to go to the LHBS and get some new tubing. Got three gallons of cider and a gallon of amber beer to bottle this weekend. I'll post how it...

Bottling by yourself... how do you do it?

So I just bottled an IPA and I had a hell of a time getting a siphon going, then a hard time going from bottling bucket to bottles. I just feel like I need more hands. I was only bottling a one gallon batch so the bottling bucket was probably excessive, but I wanted to make sure my priming...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Grats! One gallon is super easy to get full boil, full utilization. It's a little time consuming for not much beer but its also much cheaper and low risk :)

    Second batch weakest beer ever

Update in the weakest beer ever: tried one again after bottling for a week. It's not stronger but it tastes a bit more drinkable. Time seems to heal most things.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Sounds okay to me. I'd just be extra cautious cleaning that turkey baster. Today, even though this isn't a good thing, I'm particularly proud. I got beer fermenting so hard right now I got some foam coming out my blowoff tube. Temp is a constant 66 degrees. It's the Nottingham ale yeast.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Made a 1 gallon partial mash batch today. Amber DME, Vienna and crystal 60 malts. I decided to be brave and did a hydrometer reading before I dumped the rest into my primary. 1.060... Hoping to get 6% ABV :) I love one gallon batches because I get to stay warm in my kitchen.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I'm always scared to pour back in but I really hate racking and finding out I only have enough to fill half a bottle or so at the end. Luckily I bought star San so this should be less of an issue now.

    first beer fermenting!

I'm still new, on my fourth batch, but here's some tips. Oxyclean free takes the labels right off bottles. Use half a cup per gallon or so, I use hot water. Rinse thoroughly!! Then jut sanitize and reuse. :) You can let your beer go three weeks in the primary and at least two weeks in...

    gushing bottles--why?

Thanks guys. Hopefully this doesn't happen again. Got another gallon in the pipeline....

    gushing bottles--why?

I recently bottled a 1 gallon batch (beginner here) and all my bottles are gushing. I'm fairly sure I hit the amount of priming sugar for 1 gallon (about 2/3 cup of sugar split between two gallons) and I boiled it before use. Everything was cleaned with oxyclean and then one step sanitized...

    First cider batch started

I didn't bother to backsweeten. Took a reading and got just above 1 on the hydrometer and decided since they ferment out a bit lower than 1 that I could just bottle it now and get a low carb on it. Bottling one gallon was stupidly simple with an auto siphon and a wand. Took all of maybe 10...

    First cider batch started

On second thought I heard about collecting mini bottles or using the plastic bottle trick to check carbonation.

    First cider batch started

It's got a lot of apple flavor right now and the shift from 1.060 to 1.010 is about 6% ABV already I think, which is fine by me. I will probably just bottle tomorrow then. I mad some semi-bombs with my beer the other day. Added what I still think is the right amount of priming sugar but opened a...
