    Gluten Free Blood Orange Hefe

I am looking at doing a Fruit Heffe for my next batch but I do not need to make it GF. Can I just use a good Heffe recipe and just use through in the blood oranges? I am getting sick of winter and I think this will help!

Fantastic Hard Cider Recipe with Instructions (and fall spice / cherry variations)

I pitched some PE when I did my first batch about 3 weeks go. I added it to primary. It is the secondary now almost ready for bottling. Mine is still pretty cloudy. I don't know if I should of added more when I went to secondary but giving this my first batch I am not sure if it helped at...

Fantastic Hard Cider Recipe with Instructions (and fall spice / cherry variations)

Well technically only here in the US where there is a difference between apple juice and cider. Pretty much everywhere else if it is cider it is "Hard Cider". You can use juice. Do you have a Whole Foods? Their 365 brand of juice will work great it even comes in a glass jar(can pitch the yeast...

    First wort completed

I think I found the problem. Went downstairs after work and when I got by the fermenters it had a faint smell of beer. So I checked the lid it didn't budge, I then checked the airlock. Pushed on it a bit some air went through it and a couple seconds later some bubbles went through it. So, I...

    First wort completed

I may look into one of those thermometers, may have to wait a bit since I just bought all of this equipment. I looked a the date of the malt but not the yeast should of did that. The malt extract was pretty new I believe it was Oct 13(2013 for sure), so hopefully the yeast wasn't that old...

    First wort completed

I am not sure on the yeast. I used the Brewers Best Irish Stout kit so what ever was in that. Does not say on the instructions, just a sachet of yeast. I don't have a fermometer on it, I just have it sitting on the lid. I haven't decided where to put it. Maybe I should just get one for...

    First wort completed

Did my first batch last night. I would say overall it went pretty well but not without a few hiccups. Was following along the steps in Palmer's How to Brew in the first chapter. First one I don't think is that big of a deal but I started the yeast when I got to the step but did not realize...

    New Brewer

The cider is pasteurized but does not have anything in it to kill of the yeast or bacteria. Pasteurizing is just bringing it up to temp to kill off anything that is currently in it.

    New Brewer

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I am planning on using farm fresh cider, around here I can get about 4gal for under $20. I don't know if I should try this for my first time making cider but I want to try and do a mulled hard cider. Like I said though I am still waiting on my brew pot an it looks...

    New Brewer

I just picked up my starter and recipe kit and just waiting for my brew pot to arrive, so that I can start off this hobby. I live in Michigan and where the apples and cider flows almost freely. So with that said my first intention with home brewing was to start making cider then I noticed it...
