Let’s make a Blonde from hops on hand

You can't go wrong with ANY of the hops you have in a blonde. The only one I'd think twice about would be the Simcoe just because it tends to be high alpha.

What are you listening to (music!!!) right now? Embarrassing or not... share

I've seen some of his interviews from the past on the Web. Very intense opinionated guy but there's no denying his musical ability. During one interview he's giving a tour of his home with a mug of dark beer, two thumbs up. Definitely one of metal's greatest.

Brulosophy expert can't tell a Blonde Ale made with straight RO from RO plus minerals

I had the bug for almost three weeks running from late January through February. Lost my sense of smell and taste for a while and probably wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between my cat's beefy gravy and a good steak - that's how "out of it" I was for a few days. From what I can...

    Accidentally ordered grain uncrushed

I use a blender with wheat malt for my wheat beers. It bumps the conversion efficiency up a bit.

    Accidentally ordered grain uncrushed

:) LMAO It never surprises me what people can come up with that might work when beer is the ultimate reward. When I first started out with brewing on the brain just walking into a supermarket was a journey to search out new stuff that might ferment. Then I realized you gotta eat ... sometimes.

how about a meme generator thread...

Lots of stuff on Twitter feeds of people going wild with fireworks in Brooklyn and Harlem. Fireworks are supposedly illegal but that doesn't stop folks. I've been watching them have running fights with Roman candles in the streets. It's so bad there locals who couldn't sleep ended up at the...

Honeysuckle metheglin, not mead. Still, it was excellent and polishing off the liter bottle was great fun.

One of my haunts was at Sugarland Run in Sterling after leaving the Army. All told I spent 16 memorable years in VA and miss it. What I really miss is the honeysuckle mead from Smokehouse Winery. I used to make a special trip out to Sperryville from Annandale in the fall to buy several...

    Commercial Beer Quality

A bit oxidized from age and second of all, it wasn't cold off the tap. If you want a good beer to keep its color and flavor, you store the damned keg COLD. I should've been an a-hole and stolen the mug - love the red Reissdorf logo, BTW, but I already have two nice Paulaner Masskrugs on hand...

    Dogs

Well, no luck going on a road trip to visit. The kid just told me got orders to Northern VA to work after scouring the Augusta area for a house. That will bring him closer but I'm hoping he gets on-post officer's quarters. Seems he will be working in the same place for the same people, but a...

    Commercial Beer Quality

Hmmm... I don't say nothin'. I just pay my bill, leave, and never come back. On a lark I visited one of the popular German brew pubs in Asbury Park for my birthday. The big draw for me was the Reissdorf Kolsch on tap. Other than that, the service sucked, the food was mediocre, and the prices...

    Cleanest alcohol Beer

Hard liquor fermented too quickly or distilled improperly can leave fusels and other impurities. Beer is the same. That's why I ferment cool and sometimes leave my lower ABV beers in primary for almost three weeks. I love Belgian-style ales but avoid the Brulosophy "quick and shoddy" methods...

    Cleanest alcohol Beer

German-style leichtbier or a light Kolsch with a few extra bittering hops done with lager yeast. Fermented at 60F would work fine. Refrigerate well. Weyermann malt - if you can get it. S-189 dry or WLP029. WLP001 will work just fine as an ale yeast in a pinch.

I hope the dog adjusts, too. He's still a youngster and mainly a house dog. Hoping to road trip down from NJ to visit but the wife can't travel ... her kneecap is cracked. If our boy is lucky he can close on a house nearby and give us all space to run around comfortably. Right now he's stuck...

Beer very high in protein ?

With wheat and spelt you'll get higher protein content, but not in the range you're looking for. A good wheat beer will use grains near 10-15% protein content but the stability and shelf life will suffer without long-term refrigeration. Furthermore, mashing a high protein grain like wheat or...

How to do a 5 gal batch using 5 gal kettle

It's not difficult to do a decent 5% or 6% ABV beer in a 7-8gallon kettle. I do a mash and boil with an ANVIL 7.5gal kettle. My method is a 3gallon boil and 2 gallon dilution to make volume. Anything more than 5gallons is pushing it.

Reusing Yeast, no distinctive yeast layer?

Thanks for replying VikeMan. I used to follow some of your discussions on other sites on the Web before I found HBT. Hope to see you around more.

What to do when your buddy poops out halfway through a run in the Georgia heat? You pour water on him and carry his fuzzy butt the last mile.
