    Spike's upcoming eBIAB system

I see. Thanks So you used the cube to control mash temps by cycling your Adcraft on and off, and you weren't happy with the results? Could you elaborate on that? I've been looking to do the exact same thing

    Spike's upcoming eBIAB system

    Sorry, what's the cube?

    Spike's upcoming eBIAB system

Nice! Is that the 120v or 208v Adcraft? I've had my eye on the 208v for a long time, but I'm always worried about overvolting it on a 240v outlet, and 240-to-208 stepdown transformers are stupidly expensive.

NEW Spike Brewing BIAB System announced at NHC 2019

I think you may be in luck, judging by this image posted on their website: It doesn't specifically mention the BoilCoil, but given that this is marketed as an "eBIAB" system, they should be accounting for Blichmann's electric heating method.

    Spike's upcoming eBIAB system

I know! I am planning an upgrade on my system which includes replacing my BIAB bag with the Spike basket and adding the steam condenser. I've got a 10 gal Spike kettle that I use on an induction cooktop. I'm hoping that these upgrades will make for the ultimate indoor small scale brewing system...

NEW Spike Brewing BIAB System announced at NHC 2019

I agree. I've never seen one like it before either, but I do like that it's so low profile. I also like how the larger lip at the top of the basket holds it above your diptubes/thermowell/elements/whatever without requiring feet on the bottom. Not the first system I've seen like this, but one of...

NEW Spike Brewing BIAB System announced at NHC 2019

Judging by what Brian said in the first-look video (Thanks for this, by the way! Very exciting), the final version of the mash insert will have a less tapered shape and will rest straighter against the kettle as it drains. Given this, plus the fact that 1.2mm SS is extremely strong, I doubt that...

    Spike's upcoming eBIAB system

I had an email conversation with someone at Spike about 2 weeks ago, where they stated: Something to the same effect was also said in a comment reply on their Facebook. I can't wait!

    Soldering Stainless steel

Hi all, I'm about to do my first stainless steel solder, and am seeking some advice. I'm very familiar with soldering electrical connections, but this will be my first plumbing application. I'm trying to seal up a corny keg liquid dip tube in order to use it as a thermowell for keg fermenting...

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Nice! I may get one of these for one of my older kegs with a slightly warped lid opening. Thanks for the tip. Thanks for explaining everything, @McKnuckle. This is all very helpful and exciting. I can't believe I didn't realize previously the benefits of fermenting in a keg... it just seems so...

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Damn. Two strikes against this method. I'm pretty sure I've seen other people do it with these kinds of fermentors, which gives me reason to continue trying, except for... Maybe this is the way to go. I only do small (1-3 gallon) batches these days anyway, and I have a 5 gallon keg that doesn't...

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

I found the above piece of advice from @LittleRiver in the Pressurized transfers from Fermonster to corny keg thread (thank you!). This may have been my problem. I pushed all the StarSan out of the keg with gas, but left all the residue/bubbles inside, which would have certainly pooled at the...

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Ah, I see. I've done something similar to this before, with PE tubing pushed into vinyl, and it was extremely airtight. Good idea!

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Awesome. Your setup definitely sounds more direct and less restrictive than mine. Good luck! One question: how do you transition from the 1/2" silicone to 5/16" gas tubing?

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Please keep us updated on how this goes! It sounds like we're in much the same boat. Would you mind posting a picture of your setup? I think my gas out connection was a bit too convoluted. I had a 3/8" barb pushed into a hole in my #10 silicone stopper. This barb was then connected to a 3/16"...

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts and advice. Here are my replies/updates: 1) What I said before was misleading - I didn't fully purge the keg. I just filled it with a bit of StarSan, sloshed it around to coat everything, and then blew it all out to sanitize the liquid out dip tube, post...

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Good idea. I believe it should be sealed, as I pushed StarSan out of the keg (with a CO2 tank) before hooking it up here. It's possible that the seal got lost at some point. Would it remain sealed even after the pressure is removed?

Flushing keg with fermentation CO2 - what am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone, I'm trying out something new for the first time, and having some unexpected results. I've read about people flushing their kegs with CO2 produced during fermentation by hooking the blowoff into the keg gas in, and then connecting the liquid out to a tube in a jar of StarSan...
