Styles to focus on to become a better brewer?

If you ever do get into lagers, American Light Lagers hands down the hardest thing to brew and the best style to review your process. Any mistakes will easily standout.

    Stuck Fermentation?

Just wait it out. Assuming you pitched at the proper rate, if you don't encounter another cold spell fermentation should pick back up.

    Warm Fermented Lager Thread

Applescrap I've only read the last few pages and the first. What is the general consensus/success for the people who have tried this and with what strains?

    How much headspace for fermentation

I’ve been getting that consensus. I’ve got a few beers going now I may rack over to it when they’re finished for a few days. I started a new thread on here to get some ideas.

    Barrel Aging

So I got this for Christmas. It’s an unused 20 L American White Oak barrel. I was wanting to use it for lambics, but it has been suggested that I age a few beers inside it first to extract some of the oak character from it so it doesn’t overpower the beer. I was curious as to what styles are...

SS Brewtech Chronical - Completely Clogged

I've only done 2 NEIPAS in my chronical so maybe I'm not the best do advice on this. I primarily use mine for lagers and only dump once after primary is finished, however for my NEIPAS I did a dump 2 days post brewday and after primary fermentation. I'd also recommend a hop filter and cryohops...

SS Brewtech Chronical - Completely Clogged

Pics? Did you dry hop? I typically do one dump as soon as fermentation stops. If I can't get anything out of the dump valve I've put a little co2 pressure on it from the top

    How much headspace for fermentation

Top off with what? More wort? Doesn’t that just re-kickstart fermentation

    How much headspace for fermentation

I was gifted a 5 gallon barrel for Christmas. I will be fermenting and aging a Lambic in it. I typically do 5 gallon batches in 7 gallon stainless steel. How much headspace should I have in the barrel for fermentation and aging?

The country's I Q gets lower every year

"Better to keep your mouth shut and to let people think you an idiot, than for you to open it and prove it." One thing is behind this phenomenon and it is social media. Everyone has a platform to voice whatever they feel with virtually no repercussions.

    What are you drinking now?

Care to give a review of that smoked lager?

    My 1st pH meter

Nice! I probably made every mistake possible when I first got mine. They sell them at my homebrew shop without any storage or calibration fluid, or without any specific instructions on how to use it, so I bought mine thinking it was going to be as easy as sticking it straight in the mash and...

    My 1st pH meter

Whatever you got should be fine. However I would recommend you get the proper calibration and storage fluids for it as well.

    New-B step up starter question

Ironically I'm doing a starter right now for the exact same strain. It's my first time using it and I underestimated it's power. Worked the night shift last night. First pic is before I left for work and the 2nd is when I got home 12 hours later after I cleaned up the mess from the overspill. I...

    IPA burnout

I can't argue with this. I used to be quite ignorant of the advancements in hop varieties and hop brewing techniques until I actually brewed a few IPAs myself, but this "fad" has been a boon for advancing hop science in brewing.

    IPA burnout

This. I think the varying sub-styles of IPAs we're seeing are "fads" in that other styles will eventually come to replace them as the popular style for a time, but IPAs in general aren't going anywhere, and they've very much become the centerpiece of American beer culture. I used to like them...

    My beer has soured

Update I kegged it Thursday and enjoyed a few glasses of it last night. I love sours and I think it's delicious.
