    Grain bag squeezing

just my .02, if people are doing BIAB and squeezing a gallon or so out and have been doing it for years, it would have been dead by now if it did extract tannins or lead to off flavors. I don't really see how you could gain anything from squeezing or rinsing steeped grains but I can see where...

    Barleywine Braggot

I was thinking of making a barleywine braggot and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on which way to proceed. 1. make 2.5 gals each of a barleywine and mead and blend before bottling or 2. make 5 gals of barleywine and use honey as 50% of the fermentables.

    Bottling question/problem

Your beer will be fine, letting it sit longer will be better for it. Don't go by the calender btw, always take hydrometer readings to know when you done fermenting.

Brewing Beer for my own wedding... suggestions?

Made 5 5gal batches of mead for my wedding, and we ended up at a place that wouldn't let me bring it. If you do the mead, bottle just enough so you can have some on your 1 year anniversary, it will be much better than the year old cake if you do that one.

    Secondary decision....

every time you rack your beer somewhere, your exposing it to contamination and oxygen. Make sure you are keeping up your cleaning and sanitizing duties, and as little splashing as possible. It should be fine. Personally I'd just get another carboy, and if you see yourself dry hopping or adding...

Should a take a gravity check

I recently made a big beer (1.082) I racked it to secondary on Friday (27 days) and it will sit in there for at least 3 weeks before I bottle it to condition even longer. I didn't even bother with a grav. reading when I racked. I'll take one at the end of the month when I start thinking about...

    Want a Quick Laugh

the comments are great too, especially the guy calling anyone who reads WSJ stuck up and snobby.

    Cheap experiment

make up a sample to test the full thing, 3 parts finished wort + 2 parts water and measure the gravity of that. to make it easy, use .25 of a cup, 3/4 wort and add a half water, that should get you super close to an accurate reading.

think i can change my brewing timeline with my irish stout?

take your hydro readings, over the next 2-3 days, if stable bottle it. it won't be as good as it can be but by the 12th it should be decently carbed and will be enjoyable as your first homebrew. i have yet to remember to brew things with enough time for events that i want them for.

What do you do for a living?

Cabinet Man, spray booth at the shop worked well to paint my new kegerator.

Fruit in secondary - how long?

when using fruit i tend to leave it until its lost most or all its color to the beer, just check on it often.

    Mash Tun Question

So far the SS braid hose has done very well in my tun, granted I've only used it twice. I have not observed any problems with the hose collapsing under the weight of the grain, even with the 16lb grain bill for its first use and 12 lbs on the second.

    I screwed up......

Give it at least 2-3 days from pitching. If your yeast survived, they were stressed out, so maybe they just decided to relax for a little while, let them have some time. Keep it closed, and I would personally wait until day 5-6 with no activity and then pitch the muntons if it was mine. my $0.02

DFH Golden Showers = Chef Boyardi

While not always enjoying every beer DFH makes, I do really like that there are breweries out there like them, always thinking on the creative side of beer. I don't like everything they have that I have tried, but I do like the 60 and 90, and find them to be pretty consistent which would infer...

    Forgot to order priming suger

+1 for order it and just wait. Its not going to hurt your beer to sit for a couple of days, it will only get better
