Would you add the same ammount in your opinion to a porter? I was going to add 12oz of dextrin to 7.5 gallons?

I was brewing Ed Worts robust porter recipe but realized I did not have the 8oz of malto dextrin. I was contemplating using lactose instead. Any idea how this will affect my beer and also how much should I used?

I think the recipe ingrediant wise is spot on- it is just a matter of hitting the gravities and temperatures. This beer is on my to do list again for sure.

I have owned many charcoal smokers and the Weber is by far the best. It has plenty of room to smoke a lot of meat and very good temp control. Look on craigslist or you can get a new one for $250 or so on sale. You will not be dissapointed.

This was my first atempt at a clone recipe and I ended up dry hopping the centenial hops which were supposed to be added at 0 minutes. Any idea on how this will affect the final result? Damn my brew day went smooth and if I could read things would be different!

How did this turn out? I am sipping on my 1st one right now and have some extra Simcoe and Amarillo hops from last year and am thinking about brewing this.

Dogagge, Thanks for the picture! I was contemplating going the CFC or plate route but I am thinking this will be way easier to sanitize and just as effective. This will also be more effective in the summer in MN when I am brewing 10 gallon batches.

That is a nice set up! I don't want to be a PIA but could you take a picture of the aquarium pump and it's connections? I am a visual person and not very good at setting these kinds of things up.

That would be great. I am thinking about also upgrading to this method and am unsure if I want to go with a plate or possiblu a CFC.

How are you transfering from your boil kettle to your fermenter after using this method?

Is there any particular brand or options I should look for when buying one?
