What kind of fermentor are you using..

I use a Blichmann in a stand up freezer w/ a heat wrap and an Inkbird controller. I rocked a 7.5 gal no name conical for a while and it was a nice and cheap upgrade from the carboy. Basically conicals are nice because they allow you to take quick and easy samples of the beer during fermentation...

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

Really like this as a base porter! I did a split batch and added lactos, coca nibs, and coconut to the other and both are fantastic! Thanks BM

Neat idea, but I'm curious as to why you didn't just use a vertical freezer.

Reminder to watch your generations of repitched yeast

How long are you guys storing the yeast between pitches on average?

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Brewed this last week and hit 1.004 after just 7 days. I'm picking up some banana esters and wondering if I should wait to cold crash and leave it sit a bit longer. Unfortunately I missed my chance to remove the cooling to get a solid diacetyl rest :( I pitched a healthy dose of Inland Island...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Has anybody ever tried to do a fruit addition to this? I've brewed the base blonde a couple times and I do enjoy it, but I'm thinking about splitting my next batch and mixing it up a bit.

    I wish I would of

I wish I would have gotten set up with Beersmith earlier. Fantastic program that'll help nail numbers and volumes early on. Lots of info has slipped through the cracks with older recipes and I have very little record. Best $20 purchase I've made in 5 years of brewing or so.

    Chocolate Espresso Stout

I can't say I've even done straight beans, but I used brewed espresso when I made this and had a lot of great feedback.

I can't say that I've never had a problem with it, but I am able to "prime" the pump pretty easily by cracking one of my QDs a little. There wasn't an ideal way to mount the pump. Maybe in the future I'll make a bracket or something. Good eye ;) haha thanks! Teaching and sharing with people...

Here's my current system in front of my future system. There's not a whole lot I'd change at this point other than a whirlpool arm. I've just been lazy and things work great as they are. Huge thanks to this forum in helping me learn so much and getting me to the point I'm at. Still much to learn!

What is your preferred NEIPA Chloride:Sulfate PPM/Ratio?

Just want to clarify that all of you guys have in fact tested your water to know what's in it before making these additions, right?

I think the concern was more about how tippy it looks, to which I agree. It's a cool rig and I really like the chains right to the burners. Super simple and I can totally appreciate that. We're just expressing a concern for your own safety. Feel free to disregard, but having said that will help...

    Using a "dirty" fermenter

Again, I'm not at all trying to be rude and I'll totally agree that a professional brewery may have equipment that homebrewers do not, and they likely use chemicals not available to homebrewers, but the possibility for both to fail absolutely exists, thus I conclude that reusing yeast on a...

    Using a "dirty" fermenter

I'll just chime in and say that I've met professional brewers that do the same thing. They'll transfer a FV to a brite and then just fill the FV right up again. Yeast seems to hang on roughly 8 generations before getting a bit lazy, but I've never heard of this being an unsanitary way of...

Munich Helles Gavin's Mightily Malty Munich Helles

Well, I'm convinced. Heading to the store to pick up ingredients shortly. I'll be doubling the batch and making 11 gal. Also will be doing a single infusion at 150F. Yeast calcs say a 3L starter with 3 packs will put me around 760 billion, so that's the plan.

Dialing in Mash / Brewhouse Efficiency

hmm totally get it now, since the prevoil volume and gravity are multiplied together. I've gotta go back and check my notes for my last few brews because I know that Beersmith calculated over 100% for what I believe was my mash eff. After some reading, I found that this was due to me not...

Dialing in Mash / Brewhouse Efficiency

A few additional comments: 1) OP what's your process in using your HLT water to push the last bits of your wort to your FV? I run a fairly long hose to my FV and this is an interesting idea. 2) 1.5 gallons of water lost during the boil might be a tad high. It's a good practice to turn your...

    National Homebrew Competition

I agree that the brew I entered initially is the same one I want to enter later on. My IPA actually scored a 41 and it had been bottled for right around a month or so. I still have a few bottles left and honestly I really like how it's drinking right now, so I'm just going to send in the same...
