    Conan Yeast Experiences

I brewed my first batch with conan on wednesday with a 1.05 OG 32IBU Maris Otter/Amarillo SMaSH American Pale Ale. Day after I pitched the airlock was bubbling away. I'll wait a week or two to pull a sample but it should be tasting. I'm looking at pitching my next batch on the cake with either...

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

+1 I've had the same results. You will hit the numbers.

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Clone Attempt

The gravities from your recipe (OG/FG) are too high. The beer will either finish with a way higher abv or too sweet. Check your calculations again and make sure you have a reasonable final gravity around 1.016.

    Dry hopping question

If you wait for fermentation to be complete you should not have any trouble dry hopping in the primary.

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I've heard bittering hops do not matter as much, but I know they impart some flavors to the beer. I would think using a sub for the 90 minute hop extract would not be a huge deal. I would not change it to a FWH. I'm thinking of using the equivalent amount of IBUs in apollo to substitute for...

    Store hops

definitely vacuum seal and put in freezer to make them last. I buy by the pound and break them into 1oz vacuum seal bags

Been there done that. Worst feeling finding that sugar after everything is bottled, boxed and cleaned up.

    High Gravity 1.095 issue

I brewed the same beer and had the same results after the first week (from 1.09 to 1.04). 1 week later it was down to 1.02. Hoping I hit the target gravity next week. Next big big beer I will be more patient and wait 3 weeks to take a reading. More and more I'm learning brewing can be a...

I love the Red IPA style. Here is a picture. I have three bottles left. Need to find the time to brew another batch.

Hollingshead is great beer, great sandwiches/food, and great bottle selection. I definitely recommend.

Amber Imperial IPA (Inspired by Nugget Nectar Recipes)

This beer actually turned out great. In my opinion, the best beer I've made. Also, I brought it to a beer tasting competition (mind you a small one ~10 guys in my buddies garage) where it won the IPA category against 5 other good commercial beers. It ended up at 7.5% (1.075-1.018). Very...

Cider Yeast Cake to Irish Red to Big Gravity Beer

I would make a starter for the cider, but then no starter for the batches following (the red would be racked onto the cider yeast without a starter and the Maharaja clone would be racked onto the red yeast without a starter). My guess is I should probably wash the cider cake to get any apple...

Cider Yeast Cake to Irish Red to Big Gravity Beer

I'm making a cider with some washed WLP001 and was thinking of using the yeast cake from the cider for either an Irish Red then using the Irish Red Cake for a Maharaja Clone. Ideally I'd be building the cake with the OGs. But I have a few questions. Here's the OG/FGs for the recipes: Cider -...
