Using Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide to make homemade BLC

I remember a few years back trying to get a hold of some Red Devil TSP/90 but what little I could find was too expensive. I don't even know if Red Devil is still in business or if it even makes it anymore. There is a TSP/PF that is phosphate free but what I understand is an entirely different...

Using Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide to make homemade BLC

I've heard it's okay to use regular TSP but was hesitant to use because someone once told me it's not evironmentally safe and to not flush down septic systems but I could be wrong. Also our water is about as hard as it can be. When I used straight Oxyclean free it would leave a caked on residue...

Using Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide to make homemade BLC

A little stronger than I thought. I would definetly be really careful handling these chemicals but still worth a try. DMF I'm not able to get TSP/90 or sodium metasilicate at a reasonable price that would make it cost effective enough to make the PBW recipe. What I have been using to clean...

Using Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide to make homemade BLC

I kind of questioned that too but I also noticed that Foxx Equipment makes a generic version of BLC that only lists Potassium Hydroxide as the active ingredient. I haven't really known of anyone who has tried their generic line cleaner though. I read somewhere that a 2 to 3% mixture is what is...

Using Potassium Hydroxide or Sodium Hydroxide to make homemade BLC

I've noticed lately that BLC beerline cleaner has almost doubled in price since that last time I bought it and I'm not too happy about it.. Knowing that there are several homebrewers who have had great success making a homemade PBW, I was wondering if anyone makes BLC with a 2% solution of...

    1.8% Alpha - Hallertauer Mittelfruh

2022 German crops were poor compared to average seasons. I compensated by adding in some Magnum and occasional Herkules to adjust ibu's. Maverick hops adjustment tool really comes in handy. Most good German beers are malt forward anyway. The beer still taste great. DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

Yes I do see that. It is 130%. Thanks! DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

Thanks for the chart day_tripper. As far as I can interpret the tank is about 150% overfilled. So for now I'll just make sure it doesn't get hot and blow the burst disk. According to the tare weight listed on the tank neck it looks like an extra 5 lbs got put in unless I'm missing something...

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

So, I weighed the tank. It weighs 38 lbs 10.5 ounces. The tare weight I assume as stamped on the neck of the tank (TW 18.7) is 18.7 pounds. Plus 15 would equal 33 pounds. So it is 5 lbs over. If it only holds so much how is it 5 lbs over? DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

Wouldn't the fill connection be different if it was another kind of gas? It was a welding shop. DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

Aside from heat and the fact that the tank can only hold so much what could cause the pressure to be so high? DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

I tried it out on 2 different regulators a Taprite and a Micromatic and both read 1600 psi. DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

The temperature of the tank is at room temperature at around 68f so I know it's not heat that is causing a high psi. DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

Thanks you, this makes sense. I've never used a 15 lb tank before just 5 and 20s and the high pressure gauge was always at around 700 psi until just before the tank was empty. Not sure if a 15 lb tank was any different. I also ruled out the possibility that the guy at the welding shop who filled...

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

Okay but with a pressure of 1600 psi with the norm at around 700 psi or so, does this present anything bad aside from maybe the risk of blowing the burst disk? DMF.

    15 lb Co2 tank overfilled?

I recently had a 15 lb Co2 tank filled and the high pressure gauge reads 1600 psi. I'm assuming the person who filled it thought it was a 20 lb tank and it's probably about 5 lbs over filled. I didn't see any sign of liquid in the gauges when hooked up to the regulator. I plan on using this tank...

    Counterpressure bottle filler....I know.

True, I ended up using a small folding woodworking table, the kind that has 2 cranks to bring the pieces together. I than took a board and drilled a hole through it for the shank to go through. All I have to do is unfold table and wedge the board through the table. When finished bottling I can...

    Covid affecting beer flavor

I had it last February. What really works for the taste/smell impairment is taking 50 mg Zinc Gluconate for a couple of weeks. Worked for all of us here. DMF.

    Maximum bananas for Hefe yeast?

I've always gotten plenty of banana flavor with Lallemand Munich Classic Dry Yeast, slight under pitched and fermented between 68f and 70f. I've never needed to use any of the more expensive liquid yeast for my hefeweizens. DMF
