Has anybody from Canada, ordered any products online from Hopdawgs homebrewing?

I ordered from HopDawgs a couple of months ago and i have to say the experience was a good one. Great service, fast shipping and good communication. My LHBS has good prices so I don't mail order too often, but next time I have to it will be from Chris.

    Gravity readings always off

How far off are your gravity readings? Like raven1a said, if you are off by .002 that is not a big deal. My only thoughts on this matter are are you mixing the wort well before taking the OG reading, and are you correcting for temperature when you take your readings?

Pros/cons of using carboy as a bottling bucket

Actually, I have done this a number of times (for the same reason as the OP) and it is no harder than bottling from a bottling bucket. Yes, you do have to siphon the beer into the bottles rather than using a spigot, but a siphon isn't hard to start and works fine with a botting wand.

    best place for supplies: Canada

+1 to this. I ordered from Hopdawgs a month or so ago. Ordered 12oz Centennial and 4oz Amarillo, got 13.5oz Centennial and 5 oz Amarillo. Shipping was fast and the service was great. Most of the time I can get stuff cheaper at my LHBS, but when I need something they don't have in stock, I...

    Anyone not use Star San?

My hot water comes out of the tap at about 140f so i am guessing that even though there is a theoretical chance of screwing up the sanitation, practice has shown that this isn't much of an issue. What I like about the bleach is that I can soak my bottles, take them out of the bleach and cover...

    Anyone not use Star San?

Never had any bleach smell or taste. I use a weak bleach solution (approx 2 tbsp/5 gal) and give everything a good hot water rinse before use.

    Anyone not use Star San?

I use bleach. Been brewing for 18 years and have never had a single infection.

    Indian spices in beer

Perhaps next time you could use some cinnamon, cloves and cardamom and make a chaIPA.

    Boil pot in canada

If you have a Club Entrepot Provigo near you (or you make your way into MTL on occasion) they have 40qt aluminum pots for something like $60, plus another 10 or so for the lid. I saw these at the Lasalle location, and the pots seem quite good, 4mm thick nicely riveted handles, I plan to buy...

    money saving tips.

Do your research and buy good quality equipment from the start. Nothing more frustrating or expensive as having to upgrade yet again because you bought sh!t the first time.

is there a way to figure out what kind of wild hop is growing?

If they are wild hops then they probably aren't a known strain of hop used for brewing. That being said, it might be interesting to use some in a 1 gallon batch to see what they are like

    Storing LME

Thanks for the responses, I think I will keep it in the fridge until brew day.

    Storing LME

I bought 4kg of LME today in hopes of brewing tonight, but it seems life has gotten in the way, and now I won't be able to brew until next weekend. Is my LME (in an airtight container) fine at room temp for a week, or should I put it in the fridge?
