    Yeast starter w/o DME

Well pitched my starter on to the wort last night. Starter looked good, rather active. And i know, i know, it doesn't matter much if at all if the airlock does anything but that didn't stop me from smiling this morning when i saw it bubbling every 7-10 seconds or so. actually one of the cats...

What are some of the mistakes you made...where your beer still turned out great!

Well i'm not sure if it'll turn out great or not since i just did it last night, but if i doesn't i don't think this particular mistake was the fault. Lets hope though Everything into the fermentor, topped it off with water, went to grab the yeast starter and knocked a lid into the fermentor...

    Will this work?

I too have no experience with this but i have seen those elements on sale at online homebrew stores. I know Basic Brewing Radio had an "electric brewing" episode, since i don't have that equipment i haven't listened to it fully but it might be a good listen for you. It's the 4/29/10 episode of...

Hi all! A noob from NJ

Hello fellow Jerseyite Same here, started with Mr. Beer, got 5 gal batch stuff, but I'm still going to use the Mr. Beer. I figure it'll also be good for experimental stuff that I'm not sure how it's going to turn out but at least I'll only be out 2 gallons instead of 5. anyway welcome from a...

    Yeast starter w/o DME

made a 1 liter starter last night, only did a one liter because i don't have a scale accurate enough to measure how much DME i was putting in so i used a measuring cup and just kept checking the gravity of the mix till i got it close. Wasn't about to do that a second time. Looks like it's all...

    Yeast starter w/o DME

sweet, thanks. i was hoping there was a different solution (i knew it wouldn't happen but i was hoping it would be something i could easily obtain or if i could just pitch it but that was 100% wishful thinking) but oh well, 3-4 oz out of the 2 lb shouldn't make that huge of a difference anyway...

    Yeast starter w/o DME

because i didn't pay attention when i bought my kit i didn't realize that the yeast i got (Wyeast American Ale II Propagator) requires a starter. I knew it was a good idea to make one but didn't realize it was actually required till now. To avoid a fairly long trip to the HBS for DME/LME, or...

    Dry hopping an ipa, Questions

Love this forum, i just came on here because i was thinking of doing almost the same thing, only difference being mine is the Hopscare IPA kit from Midwest, and i'm thinking of using more cascades to dryhop, probably 2oz maybe a bit more. If i find out anything about it i'll let you know what i get.

Hello from a new "brewer" at the Jersey Shore

yeah NJ is insanely expensive to live in these days, especially if God forbid you actually own your house. Little Silver wouldn't be bad now though as far as for stuff to do though, Asbury has gotten WAY nicer (well east of the tracks at least) depending on how long ago you left. Nice bars and...

Hello from a new "brewer" at the Jersey Shore

Well I'm originally from Hoboken so i grew up calling it the shore even once i moved there. That's probably why, especially since most of my family still lives in North Jersey. Little Silver's a nice area, have a bunch of friends from up there. I felt that happening with just the mr. beer kit...

Hello from a new "brewer" at the Jersey Shore

Been lurking for quite some time, finally got around to starting a Mr. Beer kit this past weekend, enjoyed the process a lot even though it was a bit too simple. Broke down the next day and ordered a starter kit and a bunch of other items from Midwest Supplies. Now i just sit at my computer at...
