    Bad rhizomes?

I have the same issue, and the Willamette has been the fastest to emerge, followed by the Cascade. One of my Centennial's is still just a stick :D But it isn't a dry dead stick, it has some flex to it. It will pop up. These things seem more like weeds than a normal garden plant.

    honey starter?

http://www.wyeastlab.com/faqs.cfm?website=1#r19 If it is a Wyeast Activator pack, no need for a starter.

    Best summer beer recipe needed......

I've had astounding results converting Busch Light drinkers with Northern Brewer's Honey Kolsch and Kolsch. I have a hard time drinking just a couple when it is hot out. I used just the SAFALE for the honey and the Wyeast for the Kolsch...

    range controller?

That could be the reason I couldn't find anything then. I have a cooler to donate to the cause too :D Thanks!

    range controller?

I've searched but haven't found anything similar to what I'm looking for yet. I have a beautiful almond colored range in my basement. It is all mine:rockin:, oven is storage and the top burners work great. The large element is 2600w and boils wort in a fast enough fashion during the winter...

Show us your DIY wort chillers

http://steelnthings.com/beer/P3190130.JPG Made with about 15' of 3/8" copper I had left over. It isn't the fastest, but it works very well.

    How High?

I had planned on using some 2" ABS or 3" ABS, but this wind that we've been having is making me think I should use something stronger. Thanks for all the help guys!

    How High?

I'm just trying to decide how high I should let them grow. I don't have a trellis yet and this is my first year of growing hops. I have (2) Cascade, (2) Willamette and (2) Centennial. They are all growing pretty well already. I have them planted next to a 5'-0" tall fence and will mount some...

    When/How to do a Blowoff?

Blow-off happens (sometimes) during primary fermentation. Its the first part where the yeast are on an eating spree. Once they settle down, fermentation is most likely not complete, the yeast are just not as aggressive as the sugars are eaten up. That is when you can transfer to secondary and...

    blow off tube

I leave mine on for a week. Highly active fermentation takes a few days and then it slows down. That is when I rack to secondary. Plus, I brew on Saturdays and it's convenient to transfer then too. It wouldn't kill anything to leave it on though for the duration of the fermentation process...

    When/How to do a Blowoff?

I'd cry for sure! I nearly dropped one of my old (guessing 40 year old) carboys 'cause my hands were still a tad wet. I should get a nylon sling or handle for them I suppose.

    When/How to do a Blowoff?

That is more of a preference, I like the blow off method to purge some things for me (also a preference). The blow-off method is solid and works fine, no need to spend more $ on another carboy (I'm also frugal). A $2 tube will be enough...

    When/How to do a Blowoff?

I still use my Mr. Beer keg for my party pig batches :) If you have a glass carboy, they make blow-off tubes that fit tight into the neck. They are large and won't clog up like the small ones. http://steelnthings.com/beer/P1011242.JPG and a great movie with awesome flashlight work by me...

Dry malt extract vs Liquid Malt extract?

I don't know that I have found a great answer yet. Is there a difference in quality between the two? I did find that for 1# DME I could sub in 1.2# LME. Is it that straight forward of a conversion? Thoughts or point me to the thread that explains it? I haven't found it yet. There it is...

    'Brewery' names...

Mine is definitely fantasy, but is specific to where I brew my beer in my house. Our house used to be heated with coal, but now we have a NG furnace, so that coal storage room is mine (cleaned of course). Coal Room Brewing. It's what I tell folks when they ask me. That comes up a lot more...

Sweet. You get your stuff from Jim's or Hopping Frog in Newport? Just curious, no connection to either of them.

    Guinness, yechhhhhh!!!!

I'm not a huge fan of Guinness. I had some Guinness 250 that was rock solid though. I think it gets too much hype. Surely it is better than any BMC.
