cleaning copper chiller for first time

I just hose it off when I'm done with it and let it air dry before putting it away. Next brew, I put it in the pot for the last 5 minutes. I'm uncomfortable with the idea of cleaning it with any chemicals because I don't want them to end up in my beer somehow. The first time I used it, I...

    Irish Stout Ó Flannagáin Standard

Cold, rainy night... just popped one of these open that I had hidden away, brewed over a year ago. Aged very nicely. :)

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Made 10 gallons of this today. Tried to swing it without the rice hulls - learned my lesson there. Can't wait to have some more of this on tap :)

    Scrum-diddly-umcious Brown Ale

I haven't posted a recipe on here before but this one has been a consistent crowd pleaser for sure, after a few batches of it. Tasty and quaffable. 7.5lb 2-row pale malt 1.25 lb Crystal 80 1.0 lb munich malt 6 oz pale chocolate malt (200L) 1.75oz East Kent Goldings Pellets @ 60 min...

    External Termostat Advice needed

Check a local greenhouse supply store. That's where I got mine and I couldn't find it anywhere else. It was $70, has a plug in and a piggyback built into it. All you have to do is plug the freezer into it, plug it into the wall, set the temp, and place the module inside the freezer.

Sizing your Chest Freezer for Corny Kegs

Picked this up used today for $100: You could fit either 6 cornies or 4 cornies and 2 carboys. The 5lb c02 will fit on the hump, a small keg could fit there as well. Unfortunately a carboy couldn't be nestled there unless I built a collar which I have no intention of doing. The model is...

Using a Corney as it was originally intended

I am interested in doing just this - swmbo likes lime-flavored carbonated water etc., and it seems as though it should be very simple. What are your carbonating / serving PSIs? warm or cold?... and does it work? Cheers

New Take on Crash Cooling -- Snowpocalypse

On -40 days I don't bother with a wort chiller. Just stick the pot outside for 15 or 20 minutes, that'll do 'er.

What did Santa bring you for Christmas??

20 Gallon Blichmann kettle. :mug: Guess I'm gonna have to start kegging!

    Dogfish Head 90/60

Have only had either from bottles. I like both but ultimately I prefer the 60.

Any Cigar, or Pipe Smokers out there?

Don't smoke much or often, but I like Thomas Hinds. I also get Cohibas and Romeo y Julietas a couple times a year. I find I enjoy them most with IPAs (under 50 IBUs though) and drier stouts.

    How quick is Nottingham?

Here's a good place for this. Nottingham less than 24 hours after pitching: I pitched last night before bed, and this morning there was a thin krausen. It's gone nuts; was at 72 degrees which is OK by my standards but I thought I better cool it down anyway in case it explodes :D

    Looking for a grain mill.

Have used a corona mill but my efficiency is all over the place - buying a barley crusher :)

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

This turned out really good. I mashed a bit higher than the recipe called for and I had a higher OG and FG. Color was only slightly darker. Head retention about the same as Newcastle. I would say mine is hoppier and has nice nutty roasty flavor. What I missed out on, and what I had hoped...

The stupidest comment on your beer

hehe yeah you might confuse it with vertigo if, yknow, you'd never been drunk before.

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

Well after a nice long secondary I had only come down to 1.019. Had pretty high efficiency (OG 1.051) so I went ahead and bottled it. Was kinda bummed out that it didn't get down to where I want it but as I sat there drinking the delicious hydrometer jar I remembered that I like a big beer...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Thought I'd post a few pictures of what I did in case anyone was interested. Basically instead of using all the fittings I just fed vinyl tubing through the spout that comes with the cooler: You can see the parts I removed from the spout. Wasn't too difficult - the white spout part was...

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

I had been thinking about doing this one for awhile. Then today I was by the LHBS and for some reason they had a packet of #1099 (abnormal for them to have anything other than a few varieties). I figure it's an omen from Jesus or Santa or something so I picked up the other odds and ends...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Haha well it's too late for that, I've made a mess of the thing. $40 isn't going to break the bank anyway so I'm not too concerned. Instead of using all the washers and fittings I took apart the nozzle and fed a 5/16" hose through it. I did this by soaking the tube in hot-ish water and...
