I took a keg out to Oregon country fair and people dug it. The peat was quite subtle. Not really my favorite style of beer, but my brother liked it and that's what mattered most. I didn't have a actual bottle of kilt lifter to compare it to so I cant really comment there. Thanks for the recipe!

I'm sure you will get mixed responses as always. Personally, I wouldnt secondary this one. 10-14 days is fine on the yeast. I only secondary beers that I dry hop anymore.

Brew day was smooth. I bumped up the recipe to a 11 gallon batch, and ended the day with a 1.064 wort. I pitched a big starter and got crazy blow off with the 1728 yeast. It is also quite flocculant. Its only been 2 days and the krausen has dropped and the top of the beer is starting to clear...

I brewed this this weekend, my brother loves Pikes. I hope it tastes similar to the original, I'll post my opinion when its done.

I use a few drops of fermcap and make 2L starters in a 2L flask and never have blow offs. Fermcap is an awesome product for foam control. You can use an airlock when making starters, its just not ideal. A starter WITH an airlock will produce fewer cells than one with just tin foil.

Mine also came out a little dry, finishing at 1.008. I mashed at 151. I'll go 152 next time.

Here is a nice write up by Vinnie Cilurzo that I found helpful when i brewed up the pliny. change any hop additions based on your actual ibu. My beersmith said close to 200 ibu if i remember right...
