    Kettle Mild TIG Sugaring

The backside is already sugared because the back wasn't purged of Oxygen. It will rust. I'd recommend grinding it smooth and scrub it really well with Bar Keepers Friend. That is about as good as you can do at this point.

    Spike Vs SS Brew Tech?

It's the opposite; welded fittings are way easier to clean. That's the main reason I switched from Blichmann to Spike is for the welded fittings. To install/uninstall accessories you don't even need tools. I just hand tighten my valve and thermo into position.

20 gallon SS Brewtech Infussion mash tun

You're an idiot. The things you spew boggle my mind. Starting a business is so easy! I'll just get $30k and call up China. "Hey China send some equipment my way." Ok! Forget any engineering, design work, R&D, marketing, QC, accounting, having a warehouse, shipping, staff, etc, etc, etc, etc...

    New Kettle for BIAB

I like SS for conicals but Spike for their kettles. Spike offers welded fittings (the welds are immaculate), nice sight glass design, awesome false bottom along with their domed bottom design and there pickup tubes are all push to connect so they just pop in and out. No contest for me!

Looking for a new brew kettle

I actually have owned a Concord pot. And I have drilled into it with a Harbor Freight step bit. The bit wore out before the first hole was done. I brought it to work and used a Cobalt bit on it. It drilled harder than normal 304SS so I had our tech shoot it with our XRF machine. It's not true...

Looking for a new brew kettle

I'm looking at your link. The 40qt isn't even available and the "$30 kettle" is the 6.5qt (1.6gal). And a drill and a good pilot drill. The $10 step bits are junk and they like to get dull very quickly in the cheap 201 stainless Concord pots. I emailed Spike Brewing and their whirlpool arms...

Looking for a new brew kettle

For a 1.6gal kettle :drunk: plus the additional tools need to drill into stainless. Pass. I have Spike Brewing kettles which I love but I have SS conicals. I much prefer the Spike kettles with the welded fittings and additional features but the SS conicals are pretty sweet!

20 gallon SS Brewtech Infussion mash tun

I guess I'm confused. You drop close to $650 on a item that is suppose to hold temps (+/-1F?) and it drops 5F over an hour even with the heat? I also read you need to pre-heat the vessel too!? Now you're going to drop more money on a RIMS or HERMS, which aren't cheap, because the unit doesn't...

    Stainless Steel Question

Why does every topic on HBT get beaten to death by people that do a Google search and paste a link  200, 300 and 400 series stainless steels can ALL be NSF rated for food use. It has nothing to do with surface finish. Some codes might call for a Ra rating but I haven't seen it. Most...

    Stainless Steel Question

'NSF Certified' means a company sent some items in, spent 10's of thousands of dollars and got a nice NSF stamp. 304 stainless steel is 304 stainless steel.

New V3 Kettles from Spike? Anyone Have one yet?

Lol. You're 'over them' because the sight glass etching is faint (even though there's etching on the inside as well) and the manufacturer has already said they will replace them free of charge? Customers like this make me glad I'm not in the customer service biz. Throw them up on the For Sale...

Inkbird itc-308? $35 gets you wired, 2 stage temp controller.

I already purchased the 310T (waiting for it to arrive) and wondering what the diameter of the probe is? Is that probe also 6mm?

Inkbird itc-308? $35 gets you wired, 2 stage temp controller.

Sorry I was referring to the new one. Think it's the 310T?

Inkbird itc-308? $35 gets you wired, 2 stage temp controller.

Can anyone tell me what the temp probe OD is? I want to use with a compression fitting for my conical.

20 gallon SS Brewtech Infussion mash tun

I'm not 100% surprised by the issues. SS seems to come out with a new product weekly. Unless you have a staff of 20 engineers there's no way these products are being tested properly. Some of the QC is also disheartening. I like my Brew Bucket but probably gunna hold off on ordering more until...

    Megapot vs Bayou Classic

My current favorite kettle on the market? Spike Brewing. Welding fittings are super nice and amazing quality. You want to know what the difference between the Spike and cheaper kettles (or other similar kettles)? Look on their website at the cutaway kettle. http://spikebrewing.com

    Sanitary welds on stainless

No offense but if you need to ask you shouldn't be welding on it. First, a MIG isn't the right tool. Also getting a good back purge while also getting good penetration is a trail and error thing. You will not get a good weld on your first pass.

Brew System: BrewEasy or Build My Own?

Blichmann stuff is sooo expensive. I love my Spike Brewing gear. Plus they just came out with their new v3 kettles  http://spikebrewing.com

Food Grade Silicone O rings (Where to buy Retail)

It literally makes me cringe to read some of the stuff you spew out. Your options are based off nothing other than how you feel. Your basic understanding of supply/demand is fundamentally wrong. As demand increases prices fall unless there is scarcity. Scarcity is not an issue with Silicone...
