The Therminator - love it hate it

I don't have any experience with the hop rocket but I believe it works as a filter and would give you more options. Maybe someone who has both could provide comparison.

The Therminator - love it hate it

I LOVE mine!! The thing is, you have to use a filter such as this before running it thru the chiller: http://www.brewershardware.com/FILTER1.html There is a little more prep to use plate chillers but the water and time saved to cool my wort is well worth the extra time.

    Tower of Power

Don't need them. The valve on the HLT prevents recirculating up the tube to the HLT. The Tower of Power stays hooked up during sparging so the 3 way valve on the Tower of Power prevents HLT water from flowing down the tube.

    Trub Filter & Plate Chiller

The filter shown comes with several options for connecting tubing: http://www.brewershardware.com/Tri-Clover-X-NPT-Adapters/ These come in male or female options. You then need to get the correct connectors. Here are several options...

    Foil sanitary?

About a year ago I was using a wort chiller (coil) when the connection for the "out" side starting leaking into my wort. It was too hot to tighten by my bare hand so I took off my t-shirt that I had been wearing all day and used it as a "pot holder." The tshirt quickly became saturated and...

    Star San Cloudiness (with pics)

I can always tell when the salt runs out my softwater system....my starsan mixture is cloudy.

tower of Power and new to pumps

My BK outlet valve is about 9 inches above the center of my pump and it works fine. You may consider putting a T with 2 valves on the outlet of your pump and then using one of the valves to prime the pump. That's what I do.

    Trub Filter & Plate Chiller

My pickup tube is toward the side of the pan (Blichmann Brewpot) Piling the hops up in the middle of your BK using the whirlpool method would not work very well....it would make it worse.

    Trub Filter & Plate Chiller

Just a thing about plate chillers (IMHO). I don't recirculate to sanitize the system. I think your asking for trouble if you go that route. I read a lot of bad reviews about the plate chillers and almost didn't buy one. I can chill a 6 gallon batch in the winter in about 5 minutes. If you...

    Trub Filter & Plate Chiller

I use the standard filter (0.5mm). The most (pellet) hops I've used with this system is about 8 ozs with no clogging of the filter. I use a nylon bag when I use my homegrown hops so I don't know how that would work with this system. If you go to the Brewers Hardware website they have a demo...

    Trub Filter & Plate Chiller

I use the Brewers Hardware filter and it works great. I also have a Blichmann Plate Chiller. I boil the filter and Plate Chiller together to sanitize them and run Star San through the pump before use. After reading a lot of post about the position of the filter I settled on BK - pump - filter...

    Blichmann Therminator question

I pretty much follow the procedures outlined in the manual. I use a pump to clean and run sanitizer through after use. I use the boil method before use as outlined in the manual. It specifically says not to store with Star San in the Therminator due to "potential galvanic corrosion issues".

    Tower of Power

I give the system 5 stars. Very well thought out. It is a little pricey but I think well worth it. The flow meter and low flow switch (in conjunction with the site gauge on the mash tun) really help manage the recirculation rate to avoid a stuck mash. As I mentioned this was a problem with me...

    Air compressor aeration

Do you have to exchange your tank or do they fill it? Also, I currently use a home depot o2 tank with a regulator that I found at a home brew shop. The regulator has a small nozzle that I attach my hose and aerator to. How do you connect your hose to the regulator?

    Tower of Power

Thought I would just share my experience with the TOP (7 brews). Overall I have been very happy with the system and have had only a couple of issues to work out. I double checked my thermometers and know the thermapen and the TOP sensor agree within a couple of tenths of a degree with each...

Anyone have any pictures of the Blichmann "Tower of Power"?

I was wondering if you ever contacted Blichmann about the temperature difference you had between controller and thermapen? The first couple of batches I did, the brewmometer and controller were very close (within a degree) however the digital thermometer was reading much lower 4-5 degrees. I...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I baked mine the night before and put it back in the oven at 160F while I got everything ready to brew the next day. After I doughed in the grain I stirred in the pumpkin. Worked out great.

Anyone have any pictures of the Blichmann "Tower of Power"?

My reading on the controller (thermocouple reading) has been within 1 degree of the MT brewmometer (2 brews). The digital thermometer I use that I have always thought was very accurate reads several degrees lower than the thermocouple and the brewmometer. I had always trusted the digital over...
