    The Home Made Pizza Thread

Since I eat my pizzas by myself most times, I'm gonna have to try the last cut.

    Steel on gas heating

If you have water in the pot, you don't need to worry about the metal. The metal won't get hot enough to be damaged since the water will absorb the heat. Of course, with sugars in the water, you may get scorching. The scorching could insulate the metal enough to damage it, but I think it would...

    $upport your local store, until....

I order online from my "local home brew shop". They're about 2 hours away. They charge flat rate shipping, so that's good for me. The only thing I don't get online is my bulk grains, they can't do the flat rate shipping on that, so that's when I make the trek. Oh, and if I order during the...

    Home grown hops

I grow eight verities. Nugget has become my bittering hop of choice, since it seems to be the most predictable. I brew my Homegrown Hop Pale Ale with only my homegrown hops. Each batch is different, depending on the hops I have available, but I always use Nugget as the bittering hop. I always...

    Newbie Scheduling Question

When I was starting out, I would brew the next batch as soon as the fermenter was empty. Consumption was my bottleneck fairly quickly. I kept buying kegs to keep up with production. Nowadays, I brew when my non-brewing schedule allows.

Large amount of sediment, hydrometer reading 1.000

What I find interesting is that the champaign yeast is at 1.015. My experience with champaign yeast is that it dries it out, going down to the 0.900 range. Maybe swirl it around to get the yeast out of the sediment and see if it starts working again. I agree with Dland, the cider is probably...

    Peeves regarding homebrew forums

I used to work at a LHBS. I never told anyone they needed to buy something just to make a sale. I would ask them questions about how they make beer, and suggest something that fits their way of brewing. Sure, my opinion persuaded the suggestion, but in the end, the customer would make up their...

    Stupid Joke Thread!

My dad used to say "Pints, Quarts, Gallons". This says volumes to me. His brother used to say “Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters”. Which now make cents.
