About to finish an AG batch

+1 on not fearing foam (long-time chlorine & rinse fan). I now use StarSan for everything in the home brewery and in the airlock in case I get suckback, which has happened, and not ruined my brew. Thanks to the forum for putting our minds at ease on the StarSan issue. : mug:

Advantages of Wine or Champagne Yeast in my Ale?

TRY IT! At least think about it a lil more first though. I don't want anyone to regret tweaking a batch... but IT IS that creativity that got us here eh? I would love to know how it goes as I've been thinking about wine-like flavors in other big beers. Imagine the faces of tasters. BTW I love...

    Bread Yeast for an Ale

First batch of Apfelwein I made was with Red Star yeast and it tasted just like bread, apples, and butt. Even after a year of "aging" it still tasted more like bread than anything. But, keep in mind it fermented at around 75F. Also it was the warmest buzz ever, with the worst hangover ever from...

    D**n Pitt football

I can share your feelings of embarassment and disappointment for your football team. I'm The Notre Dame fan.

    My aeration dilemma... ugh

I never used to aerate but never had issues either. Since I've gotten a little more serious about my brewing, I bought a $12 aquarium pump & stone and had insane results. Fermentations start hours sooner and are more vigorous. They finish quicker too, like 3 days. All this with same yeasts...

    First All Grain...Nightmare

+1 on only getting better. My first AG brew was today. Cut the keggle, homemade mash tun, turkey burner... made my own ribcage chiller. I must have gotten all your luck though with my brewday as everything went better than I expected. Watch, my beer will be nasty and yours will be the best...

    Airlocks & Cold-crashes

I put my better bottle in the fridge to cold crash some pale ale. The temp of the beer was 68-70 degrees when I put it in the fridge last night, and this morning it was 38 degrees. I noticed the 2 - week - old water in the airlock was up to the tip of the tube, threatening to drip into my brew...

    Chocolate Stout... What and when?

Try 4 to 8 oz of Hershey's cocoa powder in the last 5 minutes of the boil. I hear the boil helps with clumping but my guess is too long in the boil and you get more bitterness, maybe? Also I think this would do well in a high ABV brew if aged for an extended period of time. I found a "Liquid Sex...

Review my first shot at a recipe please

I just made my first SNPA clone, modified it a lil bit in Brewtarget, which is free... I put .750oz Amarillo @ 30 min, .250oz Cascade @ 1 min and 1oz Simcoe @ 1 min... Boil SG was 1.052. Had it in the primary 1 week, gravity is now 1.012. Light bitterness at roughly 40 IBUs and a lil sweet, but...
