    CO2 level question

It's been awhile since I've bottled an entire batch, but I've used the standard 4oz of corn sugar for a 5 gallon batch and was happy with results. This is still one of my wife's favorite brews and I keep it on tap at all times as a peace offering for my obsession for this hobby. ~HopSing.

So what’s the right Harbor Freight drill for a mill? 20% off coupon out now

No bad advice in this thread. I bought the drill I mentioned above because it was on sale during an HF Liquidation sale for $15 and I had the speed controller on hand (to slow down a Bosch router). It’s worked well, but the lower RPM, higher torque drills are likely better suited...

So what’s the right Harbor Freight drill for a mill? 20% off coupon out now

Bottom line is either option will need to be slowed down. Neither can be used at full speed. @CodeSection I'm curious if your holding the drill during milling and adjusting speed with your finger or is the drill mounted and locked at a specific RPM. ~HopSing.

So what’s the right Harbor Freight drill for a mill? 20% off coupon out now

Lower RPM drills / motors are surely an option and most do have more torque at lower RPM's. Others have lowered the RPM's by using different size pulley's which also provides torque. Just to be clear, with the drill and speed controller I mentioned above, the trigger on the drill is locked in...

So what’s the right Harbor Freight drill for a mill? 20% off coupon out now

Depends on what you're milling and the mill you have. For 2 row, on my 2 roller mill, I'm usually about 1/3 on the dial. Harder stuff like wheat takes more juice. If you BIAB and want to try double milling to see if your efficiency improves, the second run through will take less power. I...

So what’s the right Harbor Freight drill for a mill? 20% off coupon out now

I have the same one as kh54s10. My mill requires the drill to spin in reverse. The chuck on that drill is threaded on the arbor and held in place by a small screw you'll see at the bottom of the chuck. While milling white wheat, the chuck spun off the threaded arbor. It broke the small...

How often to Clean lines and taps

Geez, I feel like such a slacker. I clean my taps and lines every 6 to 8 months. I'm using Intertap faucets and never have a problem with them sticking even if they're not pulled for a few weeks. With 4 lines, I daisy chain the faucets with silicone hose and daisy chain the ball lock...

Failing plastic ball lock connectors - anyone use stainless?

Absolutely correct that silicone is more O2 permeable than the Buna-N. I just started changing out to silicone on the posts because the Buna-N o-rings started to stick and needed to be replaced anyway, so I figured I would try silicone. It's much easier to get the disconnects on and off with...

How can I tell if a co2 tank has a syphon tube?

Unfortunately so. It's the labor to fill the tank, not the Co2, that is expensive. If your rig can fit a 20 pound tank or if your tank is external, then buy a 20 pounder and sell the 5 pounder. If you cannot fit a 20 pound tank, buy a 20 pound tank and refill the 5 pound tank yourself...

Failing plastic ball lock connectors - anyone use stainless?

+1 for CM Becker. Just ensure you're getting the real ones. There are some fakes out there, so it matters where you purchase them from. I've also found "upgrading" the o-rings on the ball lock posts to the food grade silicon type and using a VERY small amount of keg lube makes a difference...

How can I tell if a co2 tank has a syphon tube?

Just remember that purchasing a tank with a dip tube does add some complexities. First, you can only use it to fill other tanks. Do NOT put your CO2 regulator on a tank with a dip tube. You'll push CO2 liquid into the regulator and likely ruin it. Secondly, exchanging a CO2 tank with a dip...

    Flow meter for water

Please share details. I've seen apps for inline flow meters but the hardware gets very expensive. Thanks. ~HopSing.

    Flow meter for water

Any reason the aliexpress flow meter would not work to measure keg output? I'm thinking of putting this meter inline with each tap to measure how much is left in each keg, or at least get me close. Nothing worse than pulling the tap handle and being surprised it is empty, which seems to be...

Running tubing through freezer for wort chilling

The other thing you can do is wrap your hot brew kettle with a wet towel and point a fan towards it. The evaporative cooling will reduce chill times, especially from 212F to 100F. You'll need to keep the towel wet else it turns into an insulator vs a cooler. I did this for awhile but it was...

    Intertap beer faucets

Confused. Are we saying there are real Intertaps and cheap knock-off Intertaps or are all Intertaps knock-offs? I'm assuming not all Intertaps are knock-offs since they're being sold on the Keg King site referenced above. https://www.keg-king.com.au/intertap-ss-tap-only-stainless-steel.html...

    Water saving cooling solutions

I'm also using the immersion chiller with homemade ice in a cooler with pond pump. Moving the wort around the chiller greatly reduces the chill time. Some use a pump to recirculate the wort, but for $26 I use a stick hand blender hooked up to a timer that cycles the blender for 7 seconds then...

    Viking 2-row Xtra Pale

Thanks! I picked up a bunch of the Viking Xtra Pale during a recent MoreBeer sale. I plan on brewing a familiar batch in the next week or two and will post results. ~HopSing.

    Portable CO2

I've been meaning to post a thread about how I'm refilling my Co2 tanks. Take a look here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/filling-co2-tanks-at-home.672069/ ~HopSing.

    Filling Co2 Tanks at Home

The cost of exchanging a 20# Co2 tank was only a few dollars more than the 10# tank that fits into my beer fridge, so I purchased a used 20# tank for $25 on CL and a Co2 fill station. Here's the fill station I bought. I've used it a couple of times and it works really well. It comes with...
