Using Maple SAP instead of water

Reviving this thread. I’d like to brew a beer with sap instead of water come spring time. I like the idea of boiling some of the sap down a bit to concentrate the sugars and hopefully enhance the maple flavour. I’m thinking an amber would be nice platform to showcase the flavour. Or maybe a...

I’ve changed my tune on the 65L. If I could find a vendor that stocked them here in Canada I seriously think I’d make the switch. Large grain bills, double batches…

    Hi from Stuttgart Germany!

Welcome! I was born in Germany in the 80’s. Went back with my wife & parents for a visit in 2019. We spent a night in Stuttgart and went to the Canstatter Volksfest! Definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Such amazing beer & people!

Recipe help for unknown noble hops!

Regarding my buddy's opinion of the hops - likely paraphrasing trouble on my end. I trust his opinion, and yours! I like your hop schedule, and I'll likely follow it to a tee and see what happens. I have enough to experiment over a few batches. Planning a 90%/10% MO/Caramalt grain bill with...

@Sammy86 looks great! I'm a big fan of brewing early in the morning too, especially with a young family. I have the rest of the day to get things done or hang out! Pre-programming the robo to have my water @ strike temp when I wakeup is a huge plus too. I get all the milling and prep done the...

A question for those of you with a loootttt of batches on your systems: Do you have a long interval cleaning routine? After each brew I always use green oxi-clean, scrub with a non-abrasive pad, and rinse on all parts. Now that it's been a few years, I've noticed I'm starting to get some beer...

Recipe help for unknown noble hops!

Hey gang, a friend of mine recently gave me ~14oz of fresh hops from his property. I dried them out, vacuum sealed them, and chucked them in the freezer. I'd like to brew with them sooner than later, and it'll also be my first time brewing with hole cone hops. I took them to a local brewery for...

I'd imagine it does bounce around a little bit, but like you said the false bottom does a decent job of keeping it in place. It's only ever dislodged once on me

Glad to hear you like the unit overall! It's certainly not perfect, and your complaints are pretty unanimous across this message board. Here's how most of us address some of those issues: - The malt pipe handle does suck. Not much you can do here, just be careful! - Create your own handle for...

Good point about the suck-back when you shut the pump off. If your recirc tube was submerged in your grain bed this might explain how you got grain into the pump, since judging by your pic your crush seems fine. To prevent this issue, if you need to shut the pump off at any point in the brew...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Sorry to hear about this. I have 50+ brews on my brewzilla, all using the malt pipe with both screens and have never had an issue with grain getting into the kettle. This is the first time I've heard of anyone having issues with grain getting in the kettle with this system. Assuming you have...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

With my 120v system I can usually hit my strike temp inside of 40 minutes, which gives me plenty of time to mill grains and get things set up. My only real complaint is sometimes it's an issue maintaining a rigorous boil, which affects my boil off rate and final #'s. Nothing that can't be...

Brewing with Whole hops vs Pellets

A friend of mine recently gave me 3 large ziplock bags of hops from vines at his house. They grow every year, and he has no use for them. They definitely aren't ornamental and they smell like cascade but I'm not positive. I'm drying them out on a screen with fans in my basement, and will vacuum...

I've only recirculated wort through the chiller once. It was during a snowstorm. I filled a bucket up with snow & ice, and put the chiller in that while I recirculated wort through it. The snow was melting just as fast as I was shovelling it on. Felt like a stoker on a steam locomotive. Was a...

As a follow up - I've never looked around under there, but I've seen some pics from others. If there is a leak in the housing, double check that the hose clamps on the pump are snug. If that's the culprit then it's an easy fix!

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Water definitely shouldn't be leaking into the bottom with the pump & electronics! Hopefully it came from somewhere else. If you can verify it's actually leaking into the housing underneath and your unit is under warranty I'd go that route. It may be fine for now, but if your board gets fried...
