question about simplified all grain brewing

It seems to me that utilizing a mash tun is just adding an extra step. In fact, you could technically build a grain holder that you submerge in your brew kettle. Bag or whatever takes the place of.it... I imagine it would be cheap to build and very easy to clean. Especially if you build a...

    yeast stopped... 2 day ferm?

OK now I'm confused... Just brewed a Porter. OG 1040, Pitched 11g of S-04... 72 hours and nothing...even checked the gravity... and still nothing. Temp hasn't budged from 64 degrees??? I used a muntons no boil kit w/ hops pre added, and brought it up to 200F, just to keep it sanitary. ITALY...

    yeast stopped... 2 day ferm?

Decided to brew today... and thought while I'very got.everything out, I might as well take a gravity measurement. I'm sitting right at 1.030 after 4 days... right o. Schedule. Beer tastes great too, just young! No worries... now its just a waiting game. Later. J

question about simplified all grain brewing

I've seen some you tube videos about all grain brewers bagging their crushed grains and steeping them in their brew kettle vs. Running them through a mash tun and sparging the grains. Instead... you just pull the bag out of the water, and collect the excess. Is this still all grain brewing...

    yeast stopped... 2 day ferm?

Ill wait a week per my original plan... and take a reading Sunday night. Krausen has dropped... airlock is stopped. I haven't found any leaks... I figure one of 2 things happened: The wyeast was a ridiculously slow starter... OR the 12 grams of dry, was beastly. I'll be patient for now...

    yeast stopped... 2 day ferm?

Simple question... Brewed a 4.25 gallon batch of cream stout. OG 1062 Pitched a wyeast London ale 1028... never started... took 2 weeks to get here usps! So I re-pitched muntons dry (hydrated) ... After 2 days fermentation has stopped... will it start up again? There has been no more than...

A Fun Experiment w/ brewing friend...

Well, the guy that introduced me to brewing has been telling me that spending money on a therminator is a costly investment when he already brews good beer... I see a lot of room for improvement on both our brewing fronts and figure we could use all the help we can get... Fair enough? This...

    1 year lost to beer...

I don't think the time will be "lost", and I know it will take longer than a year... thank you all for the good words... I feel like this it going to be quite the ride! I figure it will take me a year to learn my process, and lifetime to perfect it! - J

    1 year lost to beer...

I am BRAND new to brewing... I have purchased a beginners kit from Midwest Brewing and I'll be firing it up when I get back from business travel. Either way, I plan to lose an entire year to learning this craft and look forward to leaning on the many years of experience in this forum. By...
