    No sparge mashing overnight

If you see my illustration earlier in this thread you can see that you can lose out on around 10% of sugar if you no sparge (compared to separate mash and sparge additions of relatively similar volume). As I stated, I have seen 10-15 percent lower brewhouse efficiency since transitioning to full...

    Blow off beer/wort lose

It's a product containing dimethylpolysiloxane (active ingredient in products used for flatulence control) that breaks the surface tension of the wort and helps mitigate foaming during the boil and during fermentation. You add a relatively small number of drops to the wort and it is usually...

    Water for brewing...

If you use RO, get some minerals to add (gypsum, calcium chloride, epsom salt, iodide-free salt, maybe calcium carbonate, baking soda). They are relatively cheap. You can then use a water spreadsheet, like Bru'n Water or similar, to build your own water. I use water from a Glacier bulk water...

Gelatin - Crystal clear beer in 2 days, really?

Not sure exactly why, but sometimes it just does not work. A while back I added gelatin to one of my beers and it didn't improve the clarity that much. Some beers just seem destined to poor clarity, maybe related to hot/cold break, mash issues and/or hops.

    No sparge mashing overnight

Assuming you have extracted the same amount of sugar from the grain, using full volume and then running off will reduce the amount of sugar you ultimately recover. If you mash, runoff, sparge, runoff, you will recover more sugar. See attached illustration of recovery efficiency with no rinse...

Anyone wish they didn't get BJCP certified?

I am not a judge, but I think it may be kind of like becoming an expert at grammar or speech. You start to nitpick all the problems in beer, making the general drinking experience a little more focused on technicality rather than simply enjoying the beer. I know some folks that are obsessed...

Gelatin - Crystal clear beer in 2 days, really?

Knox gelation. Sometimes gelatin is not effective. Did you follow a procedure similar to this: How to clear with gelatin

    Kegging Mystery

Yeah, the leak can only be in a few places (assuming the integrity of the keg itself is OK). Post, disconnect, barbed fittings, tap. There should be sticky residue at the culprit.

    Gelatin in Stout?

I wouldn't bother using gelatin unless you have a specific reason. Keg and if it doesn't seem to clear very well or has a yeasty flavor, you can add gelatin in keg, wait a few days, and pour off a pint or so. Keep in mind that there will be gelatin residue on the walls of the keg, and if you...

    Kegging Mystery

Beer out poppet is common. If so, replace poppet.

    Blow off beer/wort lose

My thoughts: leave at least a half gallon or so (preferably one gallon) of headspace next time, and use FermCap to limit blowoff.

Anyone else annoyed with newer breweries using cans?

Cans are more convenient and eliminate any light exposure. However, I enjoy drinking from bottles more than cans, must be nostalgia. Also, I cannot recycle cans for my homebrew.

Why are so many people letting beer sit so long??

Was your point, but your thread title and first post questioned the merits of anyone letting their beers sit in carboy for more than a couple weeks. Coulda been a little more straight forward and just asked if anyone had done any actual comparisons between very similar beers packaged right...

    Men who sit to pee

Haha. This reminds me of a fond memory... a bunch of us were toilet papering houses early in high school and I had to drop a wicked deuce. At first I was like, ah crap, I gotta go super bad, what am I going to do? Then I looked at the toilet paper, looked at a downed tree in someones...

    Men who sit to pee

Generally both are wrong. Empty roll on dispenser with new roll on top of tank. Swap out empty once new roll is down to less than 25% left, or if new love interest is in life and want to impress, swap out once new roll has around 50-75% left.

    Men who sit to pee

I cannot imagine... Seems like it would be impossible to urinate standing up if you were about to crap your pants. I guess you could stand directly over the bowl so you could do both standing up at first...

LOL. So when you take a fat dump you first stand there and piss, then sit down?

    Men who sit to pee

I poop in most public bathrooms, the notable exception being music festival port-o-johns. They are hot, covered in urine, smell disgusting, often have fecal matter smeared hither-tither, and the worst ones are full up as to be threatening contact with one's manhood. Music festivals require...
