    Grain mill broken...

I did reverse my rollers on my BC as mentioned earlier in this thread and it worked for me. But I gave up on my BC and ordered the Blichmann mill. I brew about twice a month, with 30-40 pound grain bills depending on what I am brewing. And, I love it. I know I promised a video of it, and I...

The Venting Thread: Let It Out, Folks!

Leaking Corny Kegs... Resulting in fast draining CO2 tanks resulting in flat beer. I double and triple check my kegs, keg lube my gaskets, but it only takes one small leak and phfffftttt.... empty CO2... I now fully pressurize my kegs, disconnect the CO2, then reconnect as necessary when I use...

    Brew room design questions

Back to the open joints… You can get preformed joint fillers from Emseal and others. Easy to install but they are expensive and are usually special order. Probably the best option is to use a good non-sag Urethane or Acrylic Latex sealant to seal the joint that is installed onto foam backer...

    Brew room design questions

OK, guys, first off it's concrete, not cement. Portland cement is just one component of concrete, and they are not the same. (Sorry, this is my big rant, as it drives me crazy. Imagine people constantly calling an IPA a Pilsner ... ) Secondly, you generally don't need expansion joints in...

    Brew room design questions

I have been in Concrete and Waterproofing for almost 30 years, so a couple comments on the floors... If at all possible PUT A VAPOR BARRIER under the floor before pouring concrete. Even in dry desert environments vapor drive will cause your coating (even epoxy in many situations) to bubble and...

    Worst brew day ever

Yup. There's a hope that something like that may happen. Altho like Csantoni said above, I'll never be able to duplicate all my mistakes and figure it out :( .

    Worst brew day ever

About 10 days ago I easily had my most mistake prone brew day EVER. I brew with a 20-gal Spike trio system, and have about 50 or so very successful brews with it. This time, I made not one, not two, but three big mistakes. First off, I accidentally mashed in at 160 deg F (instead of 152)...

    My favorite LHBS is closing...

I have used Bader Brewing in Vancouver. They have very good prices on grain, as they are only a couple miles from GW Malting there. I know they are about a two or so hour drive each way from the South Sound, but if you brew enough, you can just double up on the grain to make it somewhat...

Putting together my first kegging setup on a budget.

I bought my first CO2 tank with my kegerator, but just exchange my CO2 tanks at my local welding supply house. Never an issue or a question with testing. Altho the parts shown in the picture appear to be quality (Tapright Regulator, Reconditioned Keg with gaskets, and accessories.) I am not...

    Grain mill broken...

Well, I tested running the mill today with the rollers reversed, and it worked great, at least with 4-5 pounds of grain in it. So, it looks like I will be able to be brewing next week after all, and then impatiently wait for the Blichmann. (They haven't responded to my requests as to an update...

    Grain mill broken...

You bet I will. There are several good unboxing and assembly vids out there, but I will post a video and commentary when I do get it and get a couple uses out of it. Cheers!

    Grain mill broken...

Yup, I just tested and the knurling is definitely worn. I think it has been gumming the grains lately instead of milling them. :) Good Idea. I will try that for the hell of it. If it works, it will be a good temporary solution until the mighty Blichmann arrives!

    Grain mill broken...

After about four years, my two-roller Barley Crusher grain mill appears to be broken, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out. Two brews ago, the rollers started spinning as if there was no grain in it, even with a full hopper. Short story on this is that when set to the right gap, it...

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

Six and a half to seven hours on a Spike 20 Gallon three vessel system. This is from start (fill the HLT and turn it on) to end (put everything away in a cleaned and RTG for next brew day). It does take about an hour or perhaps a little more at the start to heat up the MT to strike temps, and...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Here's a picture of mine. I have a 20-gallon Spike kettle, and You can see the volume markings in the background. I will usually get 18.5 gallons MAX, but have never really tried to push it beyond that. This was the closest to the top Spike would make it, but it is alright by me.

    Spike Complete System

    Exactly what I did

Well the motor mill cart project is completed. Works like a DAMN charm too.

Thanks much for posting this. I have been looking at the SS Brewtech and Blichmann mills, but am seriously disappointed in their QC from what I am hearing. Do you have the PN of the Lovejoy coupler?

SS Brewtech Grain Mill Rollers not Parallel

Any updates on this? I was ready to get the Blichmann mill, but am concerned about it now as well.
