    All-Grain equipment recommendation

You could get a 10 gallon pot and do BIAB. This pot is $60 +shipping right now. https://www.homebrewing.org/10-Gallon-1-Weld-Volume-Marked-Brew-Pot_p_6065.html Throw in a Wilser bag for around $25 and your are in business for under $90.

    All-Grain equipment recommendation

What size pot do you currently use? If space is an option, you could potentially use it and pick up a bag and do BIAB in smaller batches. Or get a ten gallon pot and a bag. Cheaper and less equipment to store than a 2 or 3 vessel setup.

    Tall Boy vs competition

For that price, I would jump on it. Wish I had seen that years ago. I just drilled a hole and added a ball valve to mine. Would have saved me the money buying a step bit and I’d have volume markings.

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Darth Vader - Black IPA

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I see this is for a 5.5G batch. Can I ferment it in the common 6G bucket? I’m worried about krausen even with a blow off tube which I’ve had with 5 gallon batches. I’ve akready bought the grains and brew day is Saturday. Would I be safer to keep it to 5.25...

    Tall Boy vs competition

I've got the 10 gallon Tall Boy and its a pretty good pot and a great price. Get the 10 over the 8 (and somebody is sure to respond to get the 15). Very sturdy and a thick bottom. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have volume markings on the inside. When I bought it, I didn't...

Can you post those links to your reviews, please?

Fairly serious personal injury from brewing.

Sorry to hear about your accident. That sucks. When I first started in this hobby, my winged capper broke on like my second or third batch. Replaced it and used it for another 35 something batches. Just a few batches ago, it kinda started performing funky and then I had my first bottle neck...

Trial and error For a new person

It's just the chemist in me, but then again I'm used to weighing things out to 0.0001g at work.

Trial and error For a new person

One thing you might think of when doing 1 gallon batches or small batches is to convert lbs to grams. I know its an extra step, but you will get more precise measurements that way. I'm still learning about grains, so I really can't help you with your recipes though.

Has anybody ever brewed this with Nottingham? I just got done harvesting a bunch of it and wonder if it would work instead of US-05

    New BIAB questions

I turn my oven on to the lowest setting which for me is 170 and let it heat up while I'm getting my strike water up to temp. Once I mash in and give it a good stir, I turn off my oven, put the kettle it and then drape an old towel over it. I used to check it every 15 minutes after giving it a...

    Robobrew Hands on Review

I saw in your review that you dumped in 7 1 gallon water bottles but it came out to 7.3 G. Have you ever measured out your water bottles? I used to just dump in my water bottles assuming they were 1 G like they were marked, but recently measured a few out and they were all over the one gallon...

    Kettle size

I just did a 2.5G 1.059 OG with 5.35lbs of grain in a 5 gallon pot and it took it almost all the way to the top with a full water mash. Granted you could hold some of the water and do a sparge and I'd probably do that next time but it worked.

Transition from Extract to All Grain- Equipment recommendations

You've got a 10 gallon pot and an external burner? Contact Wilser and get a custom size bag made for your pot. $32 for the Grand Slam package (BIAB Bag, hop boil bag, dry hop sock, and a ratchet pulley) + $5 s/h and you're doing all grain by next weekend. If you decide BIAB not for you, then you...

Transition from Extract to All Grain- Equipment recommendations

What equipment do you have know? Assuming you have a 5 gallon kettle, you could just buy a paint strainer bag or a bag from Wilser and jump right in doing 2.5 G BIAB batches and figuring out if all grain is for you before spending anymore money. But I'll answer your question...AG will be for...

    Back in the saddle again!

Welcome back to the hobby. BIAB is a great way to go and shortens the brew day. You might even cut down on your batch sizes to shorten it up more. I do 2.5 gallon batches and Monday I knocked out a 2.5 G BIAB in 3 hours from mash in to yeast pitched and everything cleaned up. The night before, I...

    Difference in steeping and mashing?

auburntsts Wilser's bags are much better than the paint strainer bags. I've got one to do 5 gallon batches and a second one to do small batches. You are gonna love it. Good luck on your Stout

Is there a way to determine OG after topping with H20?

Never mind. I found it. For some reason I couldn't find it last night https://www.brewersfriend.com/dilution-and-boiloff-gravity-calculator looks like it will be 1.037 if its correct. This post can be deleted or left up if the mods think it might help somebody.
