    Yeast Starter Size Post Boil

Agreed, start with more water and boil down to 1L. I think you are right, I think you made a 1.047 gravity starter. It will be fine but is a little high.

    I got cloudy beer!!!

I racked this beer to secondary and was a little surprised by what i saw. Its my first batch that is cloudy. Im thinking it may be due to my ingredients. I use the same procedure every time I brew. All grain brewed 2/6 number 8 recipe from northern brewer. (Bought ingredients elsewhere) 10...

    Brewing big beers

I use a 10gal cooler with a ss braid and a 8 gal kettle too. I get about 78% efficiency, but i crush my own grain. I agree you should look into your low efficiency first and it probably is the crush of your pre crushed grains. Deffinently do it yourself. As far as your question goes, dont...

    ST Pumking clone

Hey no problem, thats what we are here for, A mash tun is simple to build once you have the right parts and the parts are like $20 plus cooler another $40. Thats what mine cost anyway. As for how much water to mash and sparge, I use this... http://onebeer.net/batchspargecalc.shtml If you have...

    ST Pumking clone

That would be a all grain recipe. Only additional equiptment needed is a mash tun (10 gal cooler) to mash in. If you dont have a mash tun but you have a big enough brew pot, you can do the BIAB method but that would require a mesh bag big enough to hold all the grains. If your grains are milled...

    calculating potential alcohol in beer

If you add the dme you are kind of going against what you said out to do, right? See what you can do with the granola. What do you have to lose, a packet of yeast....

how do you decide what to brew?

If you really want to learn what different grains and hops taste like try a SMaSH recipe. There is a sticky on it.

    calculating potential alcohol in beer

Never brewed with granola but if you want a 5% beer shoot for a og of about 1.055 and if your yeast cleans up nicely you should have a 5.6%-5.0%
